I'd like to purchase a dog guard for my 95 Disco - is there any downside to going with a regular 'one size fits all' pet divider from JC Whitney for $39.99 opposed to the $200.00+ Discovery Pet Guard at Atlantic British?
Thanks!!

Great question chris. I was going to get one for my 95 Disco but felt the $200 was really expensive. I can wait since my labrador retriver doesn't even think about hopping over.

I think the factory one has mounts that are added to the Disco between the alpine windows and rear windows so that the guard can be attached at the upper point. In addition to that, the factory guard uses the rear cover attachment point as the lower anchor. You have to take out the cover. The pet divider from JC Whitney is anchored by pushing on the top fabric liner and the bed to keep it in place. I'm not sure if it'll mark up and damage the liner (if you really care).

Hey Stan,
The Factory Dog Guard I have does not have upper mounts (though it really should) and does not mount to the rear cargo cover attachment points. It has two brackets that mount to the inner fender wells, just behind the rear seats. These both have two bolts, and than the dog guard attaches to them with one wing nut (with plastic knob instead of metal wing) on each side. Rather flimsy, vibrates back and forth going down the road, and probably no match for my Rottie should she decide she wants up front with me. Overall, I'd have to say I don't like it. Mine is the Bar style, by the way...

Get a Cargo Barrier not a Dog Guard. I made the mistake of getting a Dog guard, it ONLY does that, ie stop the dog from climbing over the back seat. If you have a large dog and stop suddenly, you will find the dog in either the back or front seat. It is held in position by plastic lugs. Cargo Barriers, whilst more expensive, are held in place by metal.
