OK guys & gals...I know this is not a technical question, but it appears almost everyboby visits this part of the forum.

I have a small high quality independent dealeship in Charlotte, NC and I would like to post here the given prices for Land Rover products (every two weeks) from the dealer Black book. I only like to do this if you think it is appropriate to do it and only if you guys are interested. It will give you an idea of how much our Land Rover's are worth at any given time. Remember this is just a quide line for dealers & Banks to assest the current value of the vehicle.

Maybe if you are interested the gods of the DiscoWeb can create a new Topic where I can post the current prices when available.

This is just a thought...Let me know if interested.

Herk
Thank you all for your help.

Don't really see the point. How can the Disco prices in NC really be indicative of what they sell for in Colorado? Plenty of places on the internet already to check for local prices...

My 2 cents.

Hey Paul,

You are correct. The intension is not to give out any actual selling prices, (nobody can, the actual retail price is were the seller & the buyer agree upon), but rather the cost of a used vehicle. It is just a guide line to begin with, not what you will pay as an actual price for a used vehicle.

You are also correct about the geographical area. This will reflect a different cost in other areas of the country, but normally that amount is around 5% difference up or down.

We purchase vehicles mostly from Orlando Florida simply because that is where most major lease vehicles are dump for the Southeast. I have been is situations were I am betting against buyers from the West & they are willing to pay a retail price in the auction. By retail, I mean "Extra Clean" in the Black Book no matter what the condition of the vehicle.

We also have clients which we purchase vehicles from the auction based on a set price, meaning we go to the auction find the vehicle the client wants, purchase the vehicle, pay the auction fee(s), pay the transportation fee(s) and charge the client a set amount, which is predetermined. In all cases the client pays a much lower price than what the "extra clean" price is.

To give you a small example. My local Land Rover dealer has a 97' Disco XD loaded with 57K miles. They are asking for 24,900. I bought a 97' XD also loaded with 53K miles from the auction for 17,650 plus 280.00 auction fee plus 165.00 transportation fee, for a subtotal cost of 18,095 plus a set of new tyres plus oil & filter plus NC inspection plus detailing for a total of 18,895. My customer pays me 19,645 plus tax & tag. The 17,650, which I pay, were the "clean value" in the black book. Normally I would like to pay the "average” price in the book, but a lot of times you have to step-up and pay more, because either you want the vehicle so bad or it is an exceptional vehicle which is going to bring traffic in your showroom. For example, we mostly sell MB, BMW, Lexus vehicles. Right now, in my showroom, I have a 2002 Lexus SC430 convertible with 235 miles, which is in very bid demand and it is on backorder from Lexus. It has brought many clients in the dealership and I was able to sell other vehicles. Now, the actual Lexus retail price for this vehicle is 61,945. We do not have a price posted. We have a couple of clients who are willing to pay more (the numbers are around 65,000) simply because they want to have it and secondly they cannot walk into the Lexus store and get one.

I know this is a long post so please bare with me. I am not trying to tell you how dealers make or not make money. Simply how I am doing it. I like to be fair with my clients and I like to save them as much money we can. It is not very easy to make a leaving now days selling used cars, and having a great reputation will most likely bring more referrals into the showroom, and we are going to make a decent profit. Also, keep in mind that a lot of people walk into the showroom and are willing to pay anything for the vehicle they like to have, but financing is the problem (bad credit, average credit, not a lot of cash for down payment, upside down in their current vehicle) and all this things have to be resolved by us. I tell my clients we are going to help them to bye the vehicle, we are not going to sell it to them.

Again thank you for reading this very long post.

Rob,

I think if I were sitting in your place probably, I would reply the same way.

First, I have no intentions of advertising in Discoweb. If I wanted to do that, I could just posted a vehicle in the “Wanted to sell” topic.

Second, I do not have any Land Rover vehicles for sale in the dealership. We cater to MB, BMW, Lexus, and Infinity type of vehicles. The only time we get any Land Rover vehicles is only if a client requests one, and then we go to the auction and try to buy the best vehicle possible. Our market is not even close to the Land Rover. To give you an example, in the past two years we have bought four Land Rovers. The last one we bought, we could not sell to the individual who order it because he wanted us to pay “extra clean” price for his 90’ MB S500 and we could no do it based on the price we were selling the Disco, so I ended up with it. I always wanted one, I come originally from Greece, my late father had one, and I always admired it.

Third, I am a silent partner in this dealership, so nobody really knows who I am and which dealership I represent.

I just thought that maybe is worth to post the black book prices so many of as can have some idea about the cost of our vehicles and also future buyers can have a starting point. That is all.

Thank you for your reply.
