My 96 Disco (owned about 3 months) with 70K seems to always get around 13 to 14 mpg around town, no mater how gently it is driven? Is this the normal range to expect, or should I be expecting better. This is a 3.9L with automatic.

My 01 d2 gets about the same, give or take a mpg.

you're gonna laugh - but in the convoy to truckhaven we all got amazing fuel economy - my stock d1 got almost 20mpg - a lifted and big tire d1 got over 17, a fully tricked out d90 did very well also, - THE SECRET??????

we were driving 55pmh......

Most of the time, 12-14 is norm for commuter type driving.
Over the weekend I did 700 miles and got just a fraction under 17, just goes to show what cruise control and a contant 68 or so mph can do

yea...my 95 5 speed with CC on at about 58-60 mph does well...

My 1996 D1 gets about 16mpg, regardless of how it's driven. Recent highway trip, NJ to Chicago to NJ, yielded 15.94mpg at an average 70mph.

Joe,

my '96 Disco with 95kmi gets anywhere from 10 to 19 mpg, with both extreme numbers on the same stretch of the highway (i70 from green river to i15). city - 11-13mpg. normal highway numbers -
16 mpg if kept steady at 65-70mph, down to 11 at
87.5 mph (GPS average)

if you stay under 60, usually that helps. just as long as its in Fourth Overdrive if its an auto box, and low on the revs, its usually best for mine....get about 20 highway, sometimes better on long trips w. cruise con.
