Just got new rotors and pads put on the disco 2 days ago. Noticed today the front pads are smoking after driving in traffic. Is this because they are new? Please help! Thanks!

It's due to all that goddamned big tobacco advertising money being focused on young Disco brake pads.

LOL...seriously though...I have a cross country trip in less than a week.
But now that you mention it...the pads do have Joe Camel painted on them...coincidence?

Yes, it is because they are new. Same thing happened to me. Should go away soon.

what kind of pads are they? kev, organic, metallic?
as far as the joe camel goes, don't worry about it - that's not a smoking connection. That's just there to serve as a phallus connection so that guys will be attracted to buying those particular brake pads.

Man I'm glad you guys are here...kind of...LOL! They aren't LR pads, and that's the reason the dealer gave me for them smoking. Sounded like BS to me. He's just mad they underquoted me by 300 bucks for the brake and rotor job. Thanks for the info you guys...puts my mind at ease for the trip.

I just did the a brake job using the Lockheed brake pads (same as the genuine, but different box) from Nathan. I love the brakes! Stops on a dime and the pedal feels great (not spongy). No squeaks and I'm a happy man!
Thanks,
Mike B.

Looked at them and they are "minntex" (sp?) pads. I feel the same as Mike B. does about his. Better braking response too. Oh yeah, and they stopped smoking...but since then they've gained 20 pounds!

One thing I noticed about front pads is that some of them rattle. I bought some generic brand, put in new anti rattle springs, but the thing kept rattling whenever I hit the slightest bump. Drove me crazy so I shelled out the $80 at the dealer to get LR pads and the problem went away. After inspecting them, the LR pads had an extra backing on them. I guess metal shims would do the same. Oh well...
