I have a 97 Disco with 3.5" of lift and 33 x 12.5 tires. I have tipped it to 34-35 degrees. I would like to know how much you can safely lean it before it falls on it's side?

a much-debated question, Kent.
40+ seems to be okay. Dealer says 42 for a stocker.
it depends a bit on what do you have up on the top, and on the bottom. Big tires help, big roof rack doesn't.

I have been beyond 40 OME lifted with 245s. I have slid down a hill sideways and landed hard at around 37 (Enough to get scream from passenger)
I run allot of weight up top and constantly see the 30s in Moab with it. I was on a muddy side slope in Canada with about 4" of lift and a full rack of loaded pelicans in the middle of the night leaning over to around 33-35.
None of it felt comfortable but I havnt flopped it yet. I have no idea how far you can take it over and dont really wanna find out,,,lol
It also depends allot on the situation. My best advice would be to drive very very carefully once you reach the mid 30s...THings can happen fast..

in TH i got very close to flopping the rangie (with OME HD and 245/75). Like, I sat hugging the passenger seat's back, and if i leaned to the driver's side window, it would gently land on its port side.
My recollection was that it wasn't too much of an angle. Too bad guys haven't gotten pics at the very "moment of truth," I would know that angle with good precision. It was under 45 for sure, and rangie is less top-heavy than the disco.

I remember wondering about that, i thought that i've had disco farther down without that teeter-totter deal.

Trevor G, Bill B and myself went to the Frankel Land Rover Freelander demo Monday night and they had a video from the dealer Trek Challenge. One of the exercises was to run a D2 along a berm that was over 45 degrees without rolling the vehicle (I'm guessing because the volume was off).

They took a tow strap, wrapped it around the B-pillar and wrapped it around a post simulating a tree and ran the D2 around the brem. Whatever degree it was, it was too steep and the D2 tried to roll-over but was kept upright (well, if you can call it that) by the strap.

Sounds like something I'd like to try!

I've gone to about 45 and couldn't hold it...luckily it was a soft cushion I leaned up against!

LOL , yes John and if you add some altitude it gets even worse...lol . My wording was all fucked up on that. I meant to say that the numbers arent indicative of the narrow stance that most of us have with no spacers and offset wheels. Above 40 shit just aint feeling right at all.....

Yeah, but you can lean a stocker farther then a lifted truck - remember that !

94Rover-

Overall, I'd have to say it was an intimate gathering. They brought down two Freelanders - one to drive and one to gawk. Drove pretty nice - but it's more like the SUVs it's competing against than a Disco/RR/Defender. More like a Honda CRV or Jeep Liberty, with all the plastic extras - right down to the Federation Warp Core engine shroud.

Most of the crowd were suburban type who probably owned an LR but kept it for the mall shopping scene, several young couples looking as though they would like an entry-level LR and one lady with some 1971 Land Yacht that was a bit more than abrasive. While I am no spring chicken, this "friendly" lady was about the size of the Freelander and seemed to offend just about everyone she came in contact with.

Some of the Frankel guys remarked that we were the only ones who actually got on the ground and looked under the Freelander!

They had a layout of sandwiches, cheeses and petit desserts, as well as a Freelander Grab Bag for everyone with a FL brochure, hat, lapel pin, Hard Rock Cafe Stuffed Bear, Hard Rock Cafe Nassau Bahamas Football (why HRC I'll never know) and they served soft drinks in FL plastic cups to take home.

Overall, it was a nice event with a sprinkling of nice-looking ladies (always a welcome plus). The LR guys at Frankel do their best to keep their enthusiasm up but it seems that Frankel the management is still too preoccupied with being a Cadillac dealership. Hopefully, when their new facility in Hunt Valley opens they can finally give the LR product line (not to mention the customer) the attention and enthusiasm they deserve.

oh yeah, i could reach the ground with my elbow, but it did very little to inspire confidence
