does anyone know of a company that can take a 4.0 to a 4.6 or do any engine mods to get more power

Good question. I would like to know too. Also, can you blue print the 4.0 to get more power out of it?

As the old saying goes, How fast do you want to go? As long as you have $$ and time and are willing to break things, you can do anything - the trick is doing it reliably and with consistency and in such a way that the remainder of the drivetrain stays intact.
As far as exiting companies goes - ECR, RPI for engines - blower kits from Rimmer, etc. There are others - I'm sure other folks will chime in.
There is a company in Baltimore that specializes in Rover heads and short/long blocks - cannot remember the name right now - Kyle, do you know these guys in Balto?

No , but the same principles apply. As I have said may times before though. If you are trying to get more power because you have fitted larger tires , you better get some gears before proceeding... If not you are hurting the truck..

We turned a 3.9 motor into a 5.0 on a d-90 with 38" swampers. I was impressed with low/mid range power and torque developed over the 3.9...the owner spent quite a lot of his money...is it worth it? Not for most of us.

I was going up this hill in San Francico. I can only go at about 12 MPH. This lady in her old 1960 volvo drove pass me and gave me a dirty look.

Ok, um, yeah...that sucks for you...I think you have other problems besides just wanting more power....maybe dirty injectors, dying ignition or SOMETHING, cause that ain't normal...

Dave-
You can turn your 4 litre into a 4.6 with a new crank/pistons/and camshaft. bore is the same from a 4.0 to a 4.6 only difference is stroke.

Is it possible to weld an alum block if a crack is around 1/2" long? I don't really know the location of the crack yet but it's a 4.6 short block. It has less than 40k miles on it. I heard welding blocks isn't too bad depending on the location of the crack. I'm trying to decide if the block is worth purchasing.
Thanks for any input.
