Well, after much consideration, deliberation and patience, myself and Drew A. rolled down to RoverTym Engineering last week to pick up our 2" lift springs and I also got myself a bumper.

This past Tuesday night, Trevor G. of Treasured Motorcar Services Fame opened his hallowed doors for lowly cretins like myself for a Disco Party. All I can say is how truly wonderful it is to be working on your vehicle standing upright and not lying on your back whoring yourself to your vehicle! If I could fit a lift in my home garage, life would be heavenly!

On the slate for Tuesday were the installation of the RTE 2" Lift Springs, new Yokohama Geolandar tires, SG Rear Diff Guard and some pizza from down the street. My brother and I had already installed the bumper last week so that was out of the way.

Here's a before pic of the height, taken from the floor to the door sill.


To help out with the install, Bill B. and Drew A. came down that night. Thank you Bill B. for your knowledge and expertise - the installation turned out to be more than I expected and the availability of Bill's experience and Trevor's resources made it much easier than doing it at home.

Here's Drew A. working on the finishing touches for the rear springs. I have Bilstein HD shocks mounted that were a bit of a PITA to lift the rear axle back up to mount the shock. In the end, we had to use the spring compressor to make it easier. That rear axle is one heavy SOB!


Otherwise, the rear springs fitted fine, although a very minor modification was made to the top rubber boot that goes on the spring to fit just right.

While Bill, Drew and Myself were wrestling with the axle, Trevor was refitting the rims with new Geolandar tires. Of course, this was after he finished entertaining the ladies that stopped by the shop - what a nice life this Trevor leads surrounded by exotic cars and exotic women.


After finally conquering the rear axle, we made our attack on the front! Here Bill and Myself install the RTE spring. Check out that nice Snap-On Spring Compressor - nice!


Once the springs were fitted, Bill made quick motions installing the diff gard. But first he made sure to take out his frustrations by bashing it with a hammer to fit.


Refit the wheels, drop the Disco to the ground and re-measure.


The combination of the RTE Springs and the Yokohama tires makes for a 4 inch height increase. So, Bill B. and Trevor G. pulled their Discos in for a little P.R. photo shoot.


And here's the finished Disco with everything installed.



Just want to thank Trevor G. for letting us use his shop, Bill B. for his work and expertise, Molly B. for being so patient, understanding and letting Bill come out to play, Drew A. for lending a hand and RTE for making some hardcore products.

Like the color, Jay.. I'm getting my 2 inch springs this Sunday.. Running 225/75 tires right now.. Wonder what that is going to look like.. Might have to get the 245/75s... How is the ride?

The ride is nice - I forgot to mention that we removed the rear sway bar altogether. I was a bit apprehensive at first, but Bill assured me that it wouldn't be a problem. So far, it's worked fine.

At first, you will feel a slight bit more body roll on the freeway curves and it is a bit unnerving,but it is something you get used to.

I went with the Yokos because Trevor lent me a set of the same size for RoverFest and I drove all the way from Maryland to Vermont and back on them - upwards of 80mph and off road. Smooth, quiet, tracks well, I was thoroughly impressed - especially when you find out the price!

225s are gonna look a bit small - especially with the lift. I thought I even remember someone saying previously that it is better to go with the wider 245s when lifting because it gives the truck a wider grip and compensates for the lift. But that's more technical that I know, so don't quote me!

Man, I think that's quite a bit taller than mine w/ OME's and 245/75's. What size of tire are you running? Looks really good! I like the bumper, one more damned thing I don't need but now want.

Lynden-

The Disco is running Yokohama Geolandar A/T + II tires in the 245/75R16 size. And the bumper is the same one that is on the RoverTym website. It is a prototype bumper that John made and had lying around the shop when we stopped by last week. Thanks John!

I noticed that the bumper still doesn't look like the brush bar post by the turn signal has been moved forward. Still looks a little strange to me. Wonder what toys he might have laying around when I'm down there this weekend..
