I've got a '95 Discovery with RPi 4.6 L motor and an R380 "J" suffix manual transmission that's about to die. I'm looking for a transmission that will stand up to the 4.6.

I have heard that the newer "L" suffix trannies for the 2000 and later Rovers in Europe are stronger than the earlier versions. I have also heard that these are used with the turbo diesel motors and have lower gear ratios than the "J" suffix model. Would like to know what the gear ratios are of the "L" vs. the "J" model.

Anybody out there have any info or experience with the "L" tranny (especially connected with the 4.6)?
Thanks,
Norm
