I have a 97 Disco SE. It has been a pretty reliable vehicle. The only major problems I have had are a intake manifold gasket leak and alternator (?) pulley. I have about 50K miles on it. Make sure that you go thru the maintenance history carefully. Regularly maintained vehicles will be a much safer bet.

I have a 97 LSE with 65K. I purchashed it used a few months ago with a questionable history. I since have done the usual maintenance and have had no problems. I have found a webpage with recalls, etc for the different years, but cannot remember where it was. You might look at the cartalk website with Click and Clack.

Thanks for the advice everyone, well we did and bought the 97 Disco SE with extended warranty. Nice truck fully loaded it even had a 6 disk CD changer that was not known by the dealer, we found it after we drove it home. I now need a brush bar for the front....

I would also check into what records the dealer has on the vehicle. They may be able to add a bit of info that could be crucial.
