i just spent the last hour or so trying to get mine free. any good adivise on removing these things? thanks

Yep - remove cotter pin, slacken castellated nut to bottom of threads but leave on, use a 2# maul to wack the steering knuckle - pound in the direction of the knuckle -about 3 good hits is enough to vibrate the whole thing loose.

Or hold a heavy weight on one side of eye (hole with tapered pin through it), and smack other side with hammer, to distort hole and drop pin out. Proper tool is nice of course - think of two thin metal fingers under the eye, next to rubber boot of joint, with another pivoted finger above pressing on the end of the threaded part, with a bolt threaded at other end so you tighten bolt to put pressure on end of ball joint.
