Just got back from Slick Rock Road to Silver Spring(creek?) Was very fun and my stock Dicso2 handle everything with no problem. Then headed to Corral Hollow. About 1.8miles (from 7A from the east side of the loop) there's a not too steep hill with loose soil and lots of rocks. My Disco2 lost traction there....
My friend looked at it from behind and told me that all 4 wheels are spining (w/o CDL) but are digging into the soil. Without Winch and other trucks up the hill, I had to back down (very rough, hitting rocks even with my not so experienced friend spotting)
Anyway, I got down without major damage. but would really want to know, 1, will CDL help in this situ? how will it help coz all 4 wheels are spinning in my case. 2, Are there any other things that I should try besides backing down?? We had to turn back because of me.
(How do I engage CDL with the Disco2? Any tech doc here?)
Thanks
---Charlie

Get the CDL, it will help you out in almost ALL offroad situations. You also might want to put some lockers on it. Like True Tracs or something.

charlie,

it is nearly impossible for a bystander to tell you if all four wheels are spinning. More to it, they may all be, but not at the same time.

a CDL + a pair of TrueTracs will, at least, make sure they all are spinning (on the loose dirt). May not get you farther up that hill, though.

All 4 are spinning, according to him, that all of them are digging dirt out at the same time, but not sure if they are on the same speed. But isn't the ETC suppose to do something to spinning wheel? I have heard loud ABS type of noice after the wheel spin for a second or two. Is it working? how will ETC help in this situ?

Heard there is a way that you can engage CDL on a D2, mine is 2001, can any one tell me how?

Thanks

Charlie,

Read the thread titled "CDL installed - for $2"...

if the hill was that loose, then you could have all 4 spinning free. Locker sends power to wheel with traction, but if all 4 have no traction, you're SOL. Then it's a game of smart driving, momentum, seeking traction spots, luck, etc.
