1996 disco with 60k miles and manual (r-380) transmission and i am intending on changing transmission and trasfercase fluids. can anyone give me tips and/or procedures?

also, my dome light and headlight reminder chime both stopped coming on when the driver's side door is opened. where the door is hinged to the body is a small rod that is pushed in when the door is shut. i pulled this out and the wire has become disconnected. question is: how do i get into this cavity to get the wire and reconnect it? thanks for all your help.
