Help - what is involved in replacing the front rotors on a 96 disco ? Do I have to pull the hubs and bearings apart or do the rotors just slide of over the bolts ?
I have not pulled the wheel yet but I know one of my rotors is bad scored.
Have done lots of US stuff but no Rover/UK mfg.
HELP ??

Steve,

If you use the search feature you'll find where I posted the how-to for someone else....

In short:
Once you get the wheel off and the caliper out of the way, you remove the little rubber hub-cap, the circlip, unbolt and remove the drive member, remove the two large hubnuts & lock-tab, then pull off the hub/rotor assembly (the bearings will come out). Unbolt the rotor from the hub.

Reverse for assembly (yeah, right! )

Tips.... keep everything in order as it comes off, it'll go back on in order.

When you're putting the new hub onto the rotor, use the bolts to line them up, tap 'em together, take the bolts out, put locktite on 'em, then put 'em back in.

Make sure that you don't overtighten the first hub-nut, but really tighten the second one, then get the lock-tab bent into place well.

Once you get it all back together, put in new oil or grease into the hub.

Then, make sure your lugnuts are tight enough afterwards.

Also, I didn't have a manual when I did it, and it wasn't too bad... the manual would have made it go quicker because I could have seen what it was going to be like up front instead of experimenting my way through it. First hub took me about 45 minutes, second one took about 20 minutes... had never done one before.

also - just don't lose all those little thrust washers on the front axle stubshaft - make sure you put 'em back on the same side they came off of or your endfloat will be screwed up.
