WIll I gain any height with the LR genuine springs? or are they just a heavier steel that doesn't offer any lift? will they flex the same as stock on a 94 disco? can I still use my stock shocks?

Let me start off by saying that I am completely unfamiliar with the LR Springs you are talking about. If they are the standard springs that come with the OEM Disco then you'll get the standard height from the factory which defeats the goal of lifting your Disco for better ground clearance.
If they are LR Lift Springs, I don't know anything about that either but I can't imagine how much LRNA wants to ream you for them. If a reaming is what you desire then a hooker with a strap-on will be much easier on the wallet!
If you want to lift your Disco, I suggest you take a look at the offerings from RoverTym Engineering (rovertym.com). I just fitted 2" lift springs to my 1995 D1 and they are Bad Ass. Very serious gear for the Land Rover Enthusiast. You can also see my lifted D1 in the Robesonia pics (the green one with the DiscoWeb sticker on the rear right window).
But don't take my word for it. Just look through the archives or do a search on them. Alot of the postings are titled with RoverTym or RTE. You'll find lots of positive things being written about their products.
Good luck.

And if you're cheap as hell (like me, and some others on the board) you will purchase two OME rear springs and move your rear springs to the front of your truck. You can get about 2 inches of lift for the tidy sum of $130.00. Not too shabby. Check www.expeditionexchange.com for the OME springs.

Cartner,
I bought Land Rover Genuine HD Springs to replace the OME medium duty springs that were on my NAS Defender 110 when I bought it. The LR HD springs gave me about 2" increase from stock Defender 110 springs and about 1" over the OME mediums (comparing free length of the two).
For a Disco, not sure what you'll end up with. I'd sure hate to see you spend $ for the wrong thing. Call John at Rovertym and buy his 2" heavy duty springs or follow Leslie's excellent advice and move the rears forward and buy a new set of rears.
I think Ho said it once, "Just Do It." Now if I could only figure out how to get a bouncing cheerleader to appear here I'd be making a serious statement.

THanks, but I was going on what the RN catalog says, and I would like to keep as much factory equipment as I can, at least original LR items, and they seem to be less costly than the OME or RTE springs. I'm wondering if they will give as much flex as the others, as the ride height seems to be OK. I don't want any more than two inches, and I need to be able to carry a good bit of extra gear off road. THey seem like a good option, and I"m wondering if anyone has used them for an extended period?

I was serious w/ my post above. For $130 you'll have the lift you want. If you want to piss away good money far be it for me to complain. Unless you're going for 3 inches don't waste your $$$. Buy two rears from exp.exchange and do the swap.

LR "HD" springs are really a misnomer.
What they are selling is different springs spec for different things.
for example stock disco rears are 110 standard fronts
D90 fronts are sometimes sold as HD RR fronts etc.
What you have to ask is what the rate and length is and so some math.
DAP sells genuine springs for $100 for 4. If you wanted to be the end all be all cheap bastard you could get HD LR rear springs for $50 and put your stock rears in the front. However, you would probably be nose high by quite a bit as my understnading has been that LR HD springs only give you an inch of lift.
Personally I would get RTE 2in MD rears and put my stock rears in the front if I did not have a bumper/winch in front.

Ok, were I to take this sound advice, would I be able to continue the use of my stock shocks? Since I"m not only cheap with a penchant for excellence, I'm also broke a with a penchant for excellence and a need for immediate satisfaction...so can I use those stock shocks with the lift your telling me to do???
By Ron on Tuesday, November 06, 2001 - 05:54 pm: Edit |
Yup,
No problem.
There is a red disco happily running around on woodheads with the cheap bastard lift now. Just check them to make sure they function when you have them off.

OK, so for 130 bucks, what do I need, exactly, for a lift of 1.5-2.o inches and a better load capacity? And where exactly does the new stuff go on the beast?
By Ron on Tuesday, November 06, 2001 - 06:20 pm: Edit |
Call John @ RTE
John: Rovertym.
Cartner: I need some new rear springs, whaddya got for me?
John: You just want the rears?
Cartner: Yup some cheap bastard named Ron says all I really need are the rear springs and I can put my stock rears in the front.
John: Ok, cool man. I know Ron, he is a cheap bastard, do any of his trucks actually run though, do you really want to listen to him? (John laughing) Anyway, how about a set of RR3 2in rears or do you want the RR1 HD 2in rears?
Cartner: I guess I will go with XXXX as I want more/less stiffness in the back.
John: Ok that will be $137.50 plus $10 shipping.
Carnter: Deal.
Or call John Lee at EE
John Lee: Expedition exchange
cartner: Cartner: I need some new rear springs, I think I want a matched set of OME 762 HD rears.
John Lee: You just want the rears?
Cartner: Yup some cheap bastard named Ron says all I really need are the rear springs and I can put my stock rears in the front.
John Lee: That will work, ever since that idiot posted that on discoweb we have not sold one set of OME fronts.
Carter: Hehehehe
John Lee: Ok that will be $120.00 plus $10 shipping.
Carter: deal.
see how it goes? Then you come back and I explain that you take the stock rears out. Install a new rear spring and then repeat for the other side.
You look like this:
http://www.discoweb.org/mar2001/lowriderdisco2.jpg
Then you take your stock rear which you took off and put them in front and you look like:

And I am happy

I really like the lowrider disco pic.
It got late so Dom had to drive home that night with just the new rears in (keep in mind the guy has an ARB and warn on the front which makes it worse).
It was right after Sept 11th and there was a road block.
officer looks in the window and says. Where have you been? What have you been doing?
Dom: well, I was at my friends house and we were installing new springs but I only got the rears done.
Officer: shines light up front, shines light in back. Takes a couple steps back. Busts out laughing. "You have a nice night sir"
hehehehe

ALL RIGHT! I got ANOTHER jewel of a Q. Can RTE install Said springs? how much would THAT cost? I'm SO cheap, and lazy as snot, that I would like THEM to do it for me, so I don't have to take it to them after I further complicate the thing I'm trying to do.....

Ok folks I have the Rn sourced OEm springs on my Disco. 110 HD fronts and twin rate RR rears. With Bilsteins. Forgot the P/n
Lift almost three inches. Not thrilled with the twin rate at rear due to unsettling handling around corners (eg interstate exits when they unload) 110 HD are almost identical to OME 751 If I recall correctly. Now that the rear has settled a little happier but rear end does pop up under heavy breaking
Would like longer travel bilsteins for rear but don't know enough about the yet....No cash available for toys anyway.....
Thanks

during mating season, the lesser known female disco has been known to raise her tail in the air to attract male lesser known male discos in the area. with extra blood near the surface of the skin - a rosey or burgandy colour may result. again another visual marker that she is ready to mate. though it is thought that the territory is 'marked' by spraying a combination gases and lubricating fluids, none have ever been seen doing so. the only evidence are drippings found near favoured watering holes and driveways in the area. or a moistness can at times be seen in supposedly sealed rear differentials.
more aggressive females may sport 'bull bar' syndrome on the lower face, this tusky almost metal protrution is meant more for defense than attack.
if a female is successfully mounted whilst in estruss - it is thought that the front will also rise as preperation of the pregnancy.
if not, the rear will lower once again to pre-mating levels and most likely road biased tyres will once again be found on her shiney alloy rims. this may also happen to post menopausal females who no longer roam the wild and spend their twilight years going to the mall or supermarket.

Ah hah...I always wondered about that....now we all know...learn something new every day. Thanks for all the postings....Since I live an hour from richmond...near the MAR site, I will be going to RTE this weekend, possibly even FRIDAY to see what the deal is up close and personal like...

I just took this lift off. I did like it with Bilsteins. The Land Rover HD springs from Rovers North is a 1.5" lift. I am putting it on ebay on Thursday. I went with a 3".

Mike D1, I want your spring set, How much are you asking, I'm sure I can give you more than ebay, and that I can get them from you less than from RN. I'm very interested, so drop me an email please!
