Hey guys! im new here and im interested in finding out just what i have to do to a discovery to make it go really hard offroad..
I dont have it yet (driving a toy 4runner) but i am saving for a TDi possibly 1996 sort of era.
Obviosly i will be adding bull bar, snorkel, driving lights etc, but what suspension setup works best. I live in Australia and i am having troublee finding people to set one up for me. They all stick with landcrusers, hiluxs and patrols.

Yea, i got OME on my 4runner, but i wanna do more. Ive seen sme of the tymrover?? setups and they are awesome! they got more than just new shocks n springs.

Rovertym can hook you up with custom springs, spacers, etc. You still have shocks to consider, though.

Hey guys and gals I need some advice.
I'm thinking about buying an off-road vehicle (used of course) to be used on the road during the week and some off-roading on the weekends and perhaps tow a small camping trailer.
A friend recommended considering a Discovery or a Range Rover 1997 or newer. But another person mentioned that these vehicles are high maintenance and that they leak a lot (PS, head gasket, etc.). I also read something about these issues on the internet at another owners group. It said be prepared to spend money correcting many of these problems (something perhaps I can't afford) Can someone confirm or deny these allegations please?
Can someone convince me why I should consider one of these vehicles?
Your opinions will be greatly appreciated.

yes, i vouch for that.
land rovers are high maintenance. and they are a pain in the ass. leaks all over, and they suck.
but once you fall in ... none of that matters.
ron, go drive one and see how you feel.
then we can talk about the little glitches.

ho~ how can you say such vile things about your beloved peeper. mine does not suck. ok.....it can be a pain in the ass, but i would never use the term suck.
some do leak ron, but not all. it is a pretty normal issue with them and if you don't like stains on the driveway it is not for you. but if you like getting your hands dirty and playing around with trucks (not tonkas) then you would be happy with one.
you are asking the wrong folks here. we will defend our trucks to the end regardless of what they put us through. but what we have is something unlike every other mamsy pamsy truck/suv out there. they are different and quirky, but like Ho said that is why we do love them. kinda like the red headed step child thing.
so if you want a trouble free *suv* that will not bond with get a 4runner or something like that. if you want a *truck* that may tug at your checkbook a little more than some others, but keep you grinning ear to ear every time you pull up to some cupcake driving an Explorer then get a Discovery.
ps: mine does not leak nor have i had any real issues with it. just some minor stuff.

Mine has 120K miles on it and no leaks, or anything. It RULES and if you maintain them they will last longer than you will. If you need more convincing, look on the photos section and trails photos...
