OK - I replaced the cracked roto this weekend and since the last one only lasted 20K miles, the installation was suspect. The old joint was installed so the drive shaft was compressing the thick sections of the roto when turning the diff. I installed the new one so the D Shaft is 'pulling' the diff by the thick sections. Is this correct? (I'm not sure if I explained that very well)

Thanks guys

Blue, on your photo - kinda looks like there were a few weights tacked on and then disappeared.
or was it some sticker?

Scott, i think your installation is correct.
it should not be compressing the slotted sections while going forward.

those spots in the upper right of the picture are the three "raised" or dare I say "ribbed" sections of my shaft. There's just some crud on there in the picture - didn't appear to be adhesive when I pulled & cleaned my shaft.

they do look like there was something before...

speaking of the vibes, you get'em regardless :)

p.s. esp. when your peg is loose.

I'll try locktite on that damn centralizing peg. If that doesn't take care of it, I'll pull the rear shaft, throw it away, and put a "Mom's Taxi" bumper sticker on my new minivan.

just don't work this loctite too hard into the peg.

In a furied rush, doesn't always seem to go that way, I put a new one in my truck last friday night prior to wheeling Saturday. I put it in the same direction as the last one.

The peg was shiny from movement but didn't look worn. It didn't fall out or seem to move a bit, I assume this is good?

What should I look for next time? Is there a bushing or bearing associated with the peg that should be checked?

Thanks,

EricRat
