Hi
I have a series 1 disco 3.9 litre. ( non abs brakes)
I discover today that my brake pressure reducer
valve is leaking brake fluid( this sits under the
water bottle not the main master cylinder).
I drove into the dealer, they quoted me $ 550
for the new part and 1 hour labour at $ 110
Can I do this myself, I assume I just have to
remove the old and install the new unit, then bleed the brakes.
any advice would be appreciated. thanks in advance

Bill I looked in my Disco service manual. They do not say anything about the r&r of the brake pressure reducer. They just give a description of its function and its location.

Is the function merely yo spread the
brake pressure equally for all the
brakes..??? can you give me
some ideas. As I dont have ABS, so I thought
it should be pretty straight forward swap.?
thanks
Bill

Its job is to feed reduced pressure to the rear usually, as the fronts do most of the work. It may be set at an angle to the vehicle line so that the reduction is LESS when the vehicle is loaded, ie rear is sitting lower than it would unloaded - when you need more rear brake effort. This is done in many vehicles, not sure about Disco. Some cars connect the valve to the rear roll bar to sense vehicle load. Yes, it should be just R&R, bleed, but the bleed procedure may be affected by the cut off pressure of the valve to the rears?
