Within the last 2 months, I have replaced the spark plugs, spark plug wires and fuel filter on my 1996 Discovery. It has approximately 62,000 miles on 4.0L V-8. This week, I am having problems with the engine not always firing. After driving, if I try to restart the engine after only 2 or 3 minutes, it won't fire. If I restart immediately after shut-off, it will restart. If I wait 10 minutes or more, it will restart. Questions: Am I having fuel injector problems? Could they just be dirty, or do they need to be replaced? Is this a job that a part-time DIY guy can do? Any helpful comments or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

Have you checked the battery, if you go off-roading a lot, the battery could be damaged. That's what happened to me, I replaced mine with an optima.

Bill,
After you shut down and try to restart, are you getting any fire by pulling one of the spark-leads and watching the arc? If so, what color was it? If it is yellow, I think Al's advice is probably correct since the battery is weak.
BTW, be careful when you test the spark lead since you may get bit!

Bruce,

Replaced battery last Spring. Last week, after posting original message, I purchased some injector cleaner from NAPA store. Costly stuff, $7 per bottle, needed 2 botles for 23 gallon fuel tank. Seems to be effective, though. Have not had misfiring problem since then. We'll see.

Thanks for your advice, though.
