I am getting ready to put a 3inch lift, 1inch spring spacers, and 285/75/16 mud tires on my 95 disco. I live in CO at 7,300 feet and do most of my off roading between that and 10,000. Here's my question, will 4.10 gears be enough or do I need to go to a higher ratio gear? Also, will the new gearing lower the 4-Low as well? Thanks to anyone who may be able to help me in my decision making.

James,
you're talking about axle gears. Yes, it will lower the 4-low as well, you will need to regear both axles.

from my personal feelings in colorado, 4.10 should be fine. You will see about 4% higher rpm with these tires and 4.10 gearing than you had with stock 235/70R16 and stock 3.54 ratio.

at your elevation, it makes sense to under-drive it a bit.

James,

I live in CO also. My wheelin' is from 8,000 to 14,000 feet up. Anyway, changing your gears in the axles will lower your low range. Just like Peter said. That tire size with 4.10's should bring your power back to where it presently is. Maybe a little less. The only other option that I know of would be the 4.7's. It may be too much gearing for a daily driver. Just my opinion. Do like Peter says and stay with the 4.10's. Good Luck!
