Hello to all the Rover people.I am a long time Saab owner and driver and have just bought a used 1995 Disco. It has about 88k on it and was not maintained very well the last 33k.(Its an ex-repossion)I have been going thru it,changing all the diff and trans fluids,A/T filter replacement,Spindle grease, new rear rotors(what a job!),fuel filter, panel bulbs, various broken trim panels.Still planning on cleaning the stepper motor and replacing some stiff vac lines. I have a few questions that I hope you can help with.
1-the engine oil was very dirty,I changed it twice and flushed it.When I cleaned the crankcase vent system it was totally plugged, the top of the rocker housing was covered with sludge.Would it be worth it to drop the engine pan and clean the oil p/u screen?
2-I was reading about the oil filter relief valve
and screen, how do you get to it to clean and check it?
3-The check engine light is on -code 45,so its the lambda sensor.Replace? Wiring? The car hasnt been in any water lately.
4-odd question-the driver side door light switch doesnt work.I pulled the switch to replace it and the wire on the back was broken off! How do you find the wire to reattach to the switch? How do you get behind that panel that the front door attaches to?
5-I replaced the coolant, the truck runs cool, but the underhood temp seems really hot.Is this normal?
Any other items to check out or clean?
I am proud of myself,I fixed the cruise control myself.Bad brake switch.
Even with all the problems I love the Disco. This unit has never been off road.I dont think the transfer box has ever been in low or locked diff.
I intend to do some light off-roading with it.
Already I have picked up lots of good info from Discoweb.
Thanks for the attention
Bob the Rover nubie!

Welcome Bob. Sounds like you are pretty savvy so far...
If you got the time drop the pan and have a look (It probably leaks anyway)
Under hood temp always seems pretty high

Okay, question, I just bought a Hi8 camera, is there any way I can dowload pics to you guys? I don't have a digital cam so I can't send you pics, let me know... I'm new to this digital stuff.

You can get a capture card and take captures of the film to your PC. The quality is not all that hot though.

That's the same thing. A scanned paper picture becomes an electronic picture. That's what I meant before, scan paper pics and email them to Ho.
