I have been told not to use fully synthetic oil in my 300TDi because it has more than 100,000 miles on it although it is oil tight, what is the opinion or experience of you guys.

You have an oil tight rover? Behold the golden child. At over 100K and if it's not burning any oil I would continue to do whatever you have been doing.

The strong detergents in the synthetic oil may cause a lot of deposits to be removed from the inside of the engine, which may clog the filter or restrict the oil pickup. This is probably good advice. You could use the money saved to change the oil more frequently, which is always a good idea on a diesel. A lot depends on how well the engine has been maintained in the past, as the normal semi-synthetic usually keeps the motor quite clean inside. I haven't noticed any more leaks than usual since I changed to fully synthetic (300 Tdi, but at 16k).

Good idea Dave but we change at 4000 mls already the engine is well maintained just looking to keep it that way synthetic oil seemed the way to go,but with conflicting advice we seek some input from vehicle users who may have some comment on the subject.

I doubt you will get much feedback here as LR diesels are not sold in N. America to the best of my knowledge
