Hey Brett...

That thing isn't half the machine my old 318 was.
It's just like the LR company. The new 300's are like the Freelander compared to the Series-like 318 - lot's of plastic and weak parts to break and fall off.

It might as well be made in China...

I remember Dad using his '72 Sears 16hp lawn tractor to pull his Ford and Chevy pickups, and his Volkswagen, around in the yard (at different times, ie. had the Chevy, sold it, got the Ford, sold it, got the Bug, sold it...). Nothing over distance, though, just moving them around to work on at various times, from the yard onto the carport...

out of all stupid LR sales shit, this pisses me the worst.
if you think about it a bit, Ron, this is a typical British statement. They only seem to drive on the flat grounds, and get ready to push their land rover with as little as a cracked distributor cap.

my jeep pulled a few land rovers out of their predicaments, and hopefully will keep going on doing that.

FWIW, the jeep's wheelbase is 109".

yeah yeah yeah... british hill rallies...
haven't seen many of them pushing a land rover, hehehe. all talk...

speaking of class, that's another funny piece.
at least the guys who had their rovers within a foot from a potential triple rollover, or with broken axleshaft, or bent frame outriggers, didn't mention the class thing.

i know perfectly the value of each of these brands, having a jeep and two rovers. but since last spring, i don't even take the jeep wheeling together with the rovers, it's just plain intimidating. FYI, on that photo i've posted, both rear wheels are on the ground. and the jeep was 100% stock, no lift, 31" tires.

peter

wonder who's Ha!

the waggler is a flaming POS, and it is not the only jeep made with frame.

nor is the land rover the only vehicle with a boxed frame. just others had it made out of 1/4" steel.

When it comes to off-road, skidders top the class.

Peter,
That is awsome with the jeep! I mean, if I too had a $2k Jeep, I beat the shit out of it to!! What better to beat the crap out of what really is a beater car to begin with, and leave it on the trail if it doesnt run any more. It takes much BIGGER balls to wheel a 30k + rig. Come one, but the Jeep crap back in your mouth, and wheel.

Seann

Jeeps are for BOYS WHO CANT AFFORD REAL TOYS!!

P M

Just so you know I am not a rover snob. I dig the jeep thing. I got to be pulled out by a sweet 84ish XJ diesel. The guy got it for FREE.

Found it on the side of the road broken, contacted the owner and got it for free.

6in of lift with stock rear springs and a couple of lockers and some big ole swampers that thing was cool.

Rovers just suit my personality more than a jeep.

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By p m on Tuesday, November 13, 2001 - 05:02 pm: Edit

Ron, i know you are not. it's not you, it's the sales pitch slogans that piss me off.

of course nothing beats a rover stock (within the reasonable price range). but the same amount of money put into the rover and the jeep (that is, in a jeep that's worthy to bother upgrading) produces incomparable results, both on- and off-road -wise.
even with the same money put in the upgrades, with a beater jeep you have $10-20k head start.

now, speaking of personality, this is a different issue. i like both, and think of both having some distinctive style. neither is a "mainstream" vehicle.

Seann,

You're such a fuckin asshole, I can tell. Jeepetr? WTF? Have you ever seen aJeep, been in the woods with a Jeep? A dana 35C is a crappy design, but the AMC 20, or Dana 44 that many Jeeps have, will be going way after your heap is in the junkyard. That piece of shit in your driveway will get its British ass handed to itself in a body bag. You can't even 'wheel' that POS you have.. Get off your high horse you fuckin bologna smoker. Do you know how to 'wheel'? Have you ever had another 4x4? Where do you go?

Yeah a 60, 70 or corporate 14 bolt is great...for a dually. Jeeps are so light, they don't need anything more. Throw 60s under a Rover and you're talkin, but on a Jeep, unless your subframe houses some 40-44" tires, you'll get hung up on every damn rock you pass! They are huge! Don't even talk to me about shaving them, cause they're still huge. Now the Currie Tera 60R high pinion, that one hell of an axle!

Basically it involves a woman, a new motorcycle, a Disco, a RR, an arrest, some suspended lisence time and moving twice. Oh yeah and I lost about $25k or so...a big hit for a 21 year old.

But, I am back!

Ron, sorry about the dampener/damper thing. Portals are overkill, Tera 60R and $55k TJs are sweet trucks. So is AGR fourwheel steering on a tube framed TJ wearing portals, New Venture, Atlas II and coilover shit.

Brian,

Can't find it online anywhere.

It was a scout vehicle for the malaysian rainforest challenge.

100% Stock 62ish military 109 with a Koenig PTO winch but riding on C303 portals. Middle grey paint with simex stickers all over it.

Since I saw it I have been obsessed with the axles and have tried everything to find a set.

PS I know they were lined up right because the thing popped out of gear on a hill climb and rolled and they had a neat pic of the underside. All stock. even the driveshafts looked stock

Ron

www.xtremeaxle.com I think shows 303 axles but the rear is centered unlike the ones on that 109

Oh, 3 wheels, my bad. It was hard to tell from that shitty little picture (guess Russian technology is still reeling from collapse of USSR). :)

I want to give a formal appology to any one who took insult to what I had posted. I didnt mean to offend any one. Had too many responsiblities on my mind, and lost my top.

Greatly sorry

LOL - I too have lil bundle to contend with. I'm thinkin after t-day weekend. Earliest probably weekend of Saturday Dec 1. Maybe early Sat or Sun run? We could hit coves again or Sycamore creek - I should have steering stabilizer relocated by then (roached one there a while back). Ever gone back past the creek? Damn trails run forever...

If you want, email Ho and ask him to snag that pic of your Disco from my gallery and put it into yours. Not that I don't want it, but you could use a little dirt

Let's plan on December and continue this conversation in the Events section.

Slider,

Full lock to the right, I lost about 15 degrees in the wheel...which is hardly noticeable. The rims keep it almost stock. It's the nicest/softest ride I've had in my truck since it was stock! The tires are load range C and max inflate is 35 psi.
