I puchased a SG Bumper Used and it did not have a skid plate. I don't want to get SG's because I have heard stories of their skid plates not fitting bumpers even when purchased toghether new. I want to make my own. I need to also relocate the steering damper up in front of the Axel. I Know I need mounting tabs on the SG Bumber and I am havig the bumper re-powder coated and also getting some welding done.

Ideas, suggestions, pics, opinions, - I want them all.

Thanks

Warren

Warren, I just completed a front plate for my ARB. I actually welded a couple of tabs on the frame just forward of and attached to the tie down loops. These two tabs and two tabs welded to the bumper support a frame that the aluminum plate is bolted to. My design does not swoop down as far as SG and some others, so it leaves the steering link a bit exposed. I went back and forth on how far down to bring the plate. I was concerned that deep sitting plate, while it adds protection can also get caught up on obstacles. Also the trailing 3" of my plate are bent a few degress up to help prevent it catching on obstacles--especially a problem backing off a failed attempt. When pics develop, I will post

Take a look at the RTE bumper and plate. Notice how John uses a piece of angle and flat bar clamped by a bolt that acts as a brace around the cross rail. I almost went this route but I might have made the brace the entire length of the cross rail and use 3 bolts. I have not seen how SG attaches the plate.
