I was driving back from Maine this weekend, and after I filled the tank got rite on the highway...

after a few, I had these momentary hesitations in power, like i pulled my foot quickly off the gas petal....but I didn't

I have seen this discussed before, but didnt see anything in archives, nor can remember what it was

Thanks all

Joshua, I had a similar problem on my 97 It would just cut out for a few seconds then kick back in. It turned out to be a faulty speed sensor located on the transfer case. the part was about 75.00 and took about 20 min to change. the parts guy told me this is pretty common after 70,000 miles.

hope this helps

I have the same problem with my 1996 Tdi Auto. I have checked all the obvious ie airfilter, draining water, diesel filter etc but I can not find the cause. This has been a problem for 70 000 km now without getting better nor worse. Could it be the fuel lift pump loosing the pressure and needing some time to build it up again? Also how can you diagnose if this speed sensor is the problem? Anyone have a partno. for it?

TIA

Peter

josh

same deal with me. i was thinking a bad fuel pump or fuel filter, but the speed sensor is something i forgot about.

isn't it really annoying going up hills with someone on your ass and then the truck 'lets up' just for a split second. oh the folks in back just looooove that.

let me know what you find out as i will do the same.

'96 SE7 w/65K

ps: check archieves for more posts on this. i know there are a good #.

I had the same problem around 70,000 too. I changed the fuel filter, put some fuel injector cleaner in and now use only the highest grade fuel at the pump. No problems since. Good luck!

this may sound really stupid, but make sure your gas cap is on nice and tight. i had this problem at about 45K and went to a rover dealership and they diagnosed a new fuel pump. on a lark, i double checked the gas cap and it stopped happening. i am now at 75k and it maybe has happened 2 or 3 times in 30K miles.

also, there was a recall on rovers for the fuel filler neck loosing pressure where they simply replaces some rubber part (i think). i had this done as well.

gp, well I guess my question is the same as Joshua's, my '98 SE does the same thing I've experienced at least two or three times already, in the middle of a freeway run there would seem like a sudden lag and then it would quickly pick up and not happen again.

with regard to the gas filler cap the only experience I've with that was a check engine light.

Tom, tell me more about that filler neck recall. I've never been notified (or is it one of those "you must ask" deals?) Lately I've been concerned with my fuel system losing pressure and that item may be the culprit...

Thanks

do any of you guys show a code on the computer thing screen under the passenger seat? If its 17, I'm told that that would be a throttle potentiometer, and your problem sounds like mine. My new one is in the mail now....
