I want to buy some aggressive mud-terrain tires that are good for both trail riding and highway driving. I want something that is also good in the ice. I have heard all the good and bad things about BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain and GoodYear Wrangler MT/R tires, but has anyone looked at the Yokohama Geolander MT tires? They are pretty cheap and(from what I heard) can match(maybe beat) all the other mud-terrain tires out there.

Dave, I'm running them on my 90 and have been quite happy with them. They do wear more quickly than the BFGs, but the cost was worth it for me. Have a look at the new BFG MTRs, too.

Also - I don't know anyone with them on a Disco, but I do have a friend with one set of 33's on his D110 and a set of 35's on his D90. He love's em versus the old BFG MT's. Let me know off-list if you want to contact him.

You mean Putnins? He loves them, esp. vs. his old MT's which, interestingly, still had a lot of tread, but had lost all of their "stickiness" (technical term). They do wear like iron, though, much better than the yoks.

Yeah - I mean crazy John - the tires are sweet though - wish they'd had them in the 245/75/16 when I bought mine. You are right though, his MT's better than 60% tread, but wouldn't grip on rock for anything. Goodyear's are known for soft compound tires (good performance/short life) - so the rock traction is great. He was looking jealously at another guys Swamper TSL's this weekend though!

Have you tried Ground Hawgs yet?

Only thing better than swampers are Hawgs, only thing better the hawgs are boggers.

well, i am planning on getting boggers in this coming winter..they have a new size out...33 12.5 15...so that will be a sight!
but i like the new simex, plus they are 2.5 times cheaper!

I cannot find anywhere here US that sells SIMEX, I like them too and would like to try a set, especially at 40% of bogger costs.

ron...i do not think that they are legal here, since they are not approved by the gvt here...inlebanon, no gvt=no rules...so i will be getting my hands on some...
i am currently talking to the comapny to see if they want to open shop in lebanon and distribute to the middle east, if i do get that position, then i'll send you a set...hehehe...

Non DOT does not bother me. I would use them only off-road. I tried to harass the SIMEX truck tire US distributor (they sell bus and semi tires here apparently) but I got no where. Like I said I have too much time on my hands.

Which mud-terrain tire is best for 98% on-road and 2% off-road(mud, hills and mild-rockcrawling). I know that they all basically suck, but which one doesn't suck as much as the others on ice. I heard that tire-siping would help, but nobody I talked to recommends it.

that would be the trac edge, u'll be very happy with them...they are made by BFG and they are under the commercial catalogue...they are very good and cheap!

i found out that they don't, so if I do get them...i'll get 245/75 16 on AR wheels. How is this tire in tread wear? Where is a good place to get them for really cheap?

Also the Dunlop R/T is as good or better than trac edge and they are cheaper too.

the trac edges are real work horses...the only reason i changed from them to the BFG MTs a while back was for curiosity reasons...they easily had 50,000Km left on them!....then i went to swampers...hehehe
