Are the stock shocks on a 96 DI gas charged or a regular shock? will be replacing them soon.Will probably go with bilsteins unless anyone could suggest something better(looking for most comfortable ride for stock disco)does bilstein have dedicated part #s for DI? Went to an auto parts store in nyc area and was told there is no listing,tried to sell me delco shocks at $90 each, any help would be appreciated.

I have Bilsteins on an otherwise stock disco, and the difference is tremendous. The stock woodheads are not gas charged. The Bilsteins are, and it makes putting them on kinda fun because the shock is difficult to compress, and it always wants to expand. Call Bill at Great Basin Rovers for them:

Can you put OME shocks on stock springs though?

yepper. that is the way i ran for many months until i got my OME HD/MD springs. it is easier of course to do it all at once, but i tend to buy things 'here and there' so to speak. the stock woodheads compared to the OME's is not all that much different (OME a little longer) when you are talking about shock length when extended. but regardless it does not matter if you put the OME's on with stock springs. as mentioned many times on this site by some real money saving (for lack of a bad word) folks you can just buy one set of OME springs (762') and put them in the back and then take the stock rears and put them up front. will supposidly give you the same lift as doing the OME's both up front and in the rear.

Thanks Garrett. I am considering going with the OME's, but I have to be able to fit the disco into parking garages in the city. I am afraid that it may give me too much lift and I will have to find parking on the street somewhere which is almost impossible. I may just go with the shocks...
