How can i cut off the immobilizer on my 97 Disco. Yesterday the car refused to start for a long time.I was off roading and I think I wet it. I checked almost everything. The spark plugs had spark. The fuel pump was working well, and everything seemed ok. But the car didn't start. After 80 km of towing and 3 hours later I gave one more try.
The car started with the first crank with no problem. I think the problem is with immobilizer. What do u think?

Was the engine turning over and no start or just no crank?

i've had "similar no start issues..." im not sure what the "immobilizer" is?!?!? but for whatever reason when i jump in my Disco and it doesnt start (after repeated cranking and cranking...) i pop the hood open and "jiggle/reseat all the spark plug wires and distributor cap...

i've replaced the Cap, rotor, wires and sparkplugs several times but for whatever reason, when my disco wont start, this seeming stupid routine seems to fix (knock on wood) the problem 100% of the time so far....

Sorry I wasn't specified. My Disco is a 97 Mpi.
It has no distributor but 2 electronic boxes that are totally sealed. The immobilizer is the factory security system that cuts the engine (I think the injectors) if you dont have the key with the remote.

MAYBE its just the key controller for the security system battery dieing or something like that...

I had the same problem. I just hit the unlock button on the key controller two more times and it started right up.

there is a new cd to reporgram the factory alarm for just this problem - thought this is for NAS cars - but check with your local l.r. agent to be sure.

none of the above.I tried all of these that you suggest with no luck. A friend of mine told that once there were 5 Discos together fully prepared with snorkels winches lokkers and they tried to pass through a river. One by one stopped into the river. They winched them out and they call for help. The main Dealer of L.R. here in Greece send them a mechanic and he cut off the immobilizer, and the cars started immediately. Thats why I think my problem is that. I want to cut off the damn thing but i dont know how.The stupid local dealer said me that there is no way. But always is a way, is that right guys?
