No one would ever use anything I write as a reference... even if it is directly from the shop manual.

Perrone, i have to admit to reading tech stuff on your website
FWIW, i found many inconsistencies in Haynes' Range Rover manual.

So have I!! I am actually getting a REAL LR manual shipped to me this month. In some cases if you notice on the web page, I have scanned the shop manual pages. I borrowed a manual from a friend for a month to try and get some better info.
The only stuff on the web page is stuff I have actually done though, so even though there may be inconsistencies, it actually worked for me. I put my name on the stuff I have done so that hopefully if people see things that are wrong, they can let me know about them. I changed some stuff last week because people helped me update info. Let me know if you see stuff.

Perrone/and DiscoWeb put the word out that Range Rover Classic owners do not, I repeat, DO NOT have to pay for a Brand New starter motor when the OEM Bosch wears out....9 times out of 10 its always the brushes that burn and wear......Napa auto parts carries the brushes for the rebuild, and the cost is between $60-75 dollars. My starter decided to crash and burn on me this past Saturday night.....In Babies 'R' Us parking lot of all places(that AAA plus Membership sure pays for itself when you own and operate British makes), so any way, I kept trying to turn the engine over and I didn't know all the harm I was causing by doing this...completly burned all the brushes off...the armature was still good, so all I needed to do was pull the starter out....EASY JOB, JUST NEED TO REMOVE THE HEAT SHIELD.....but make sure to replace the upper heat shield that attaches to the manifold, the lower one is trash-also have a 8MM hex on hand to remove the bolts for the starter-13MM for the heat shield- take the starter apart and inspect the brushes-call Napa, get a new set, and voila' still have your A+++++++ Bosch, $700 from the dealer starter-better than Mean Green, or any other aftermarket in MHO-For a rebuild by a pro-expect to spend about $125-160.00-put the starter back in the way you took it out and your ROLLING again-
side story, when I was in high school(SO LONG AGO, wish I was still there) I had a car at 16- Toyota Celica(Dinosaur)it was a 79 Celica hatch back-well, I had several other cars throughout high school, but my friends and classmates always said that I was the only person who's car would break down and be running again before the day was over-well, I'm getting a little rusty, but My 94Classic is(Think Kenny Rogers here) "On the Road Again"
blah blah blah, someone cut and paste this as a new thread, I'm worn out-

p.s-I forgot to extend a HeartFelt THANK YOU TO MY AWESOME DAD-thanks Dad, eventhough you will always be a Chevy man, you really outshined this time- Thanks 1Million
