Stock D2 tires are 255, and stock D1 tires are 235 (?), Isn't wider tires better than narrower tires?

What is the reason for using narrower tires?

I think it is a case of comparing apples to oranges. The vehicles weigh different amounts. The D2 is wider and heavier than a D1.
