Atlantic British has 16" x 5.5" steel wheels for sale right now for about $50 each. They are made by Dunlop for series Rovers. Will they work with a '95 Discovery? These are the wheels: http://www.atlanticbritish.com/product_list.asp?c=WHEELS+%2D+HUBS+%2D+AXLES%3A+Wheels%5CNuts&sc1=Wheels%5CNuts&c1=WHEELS+%2D+HUBS+%2D+AXLES&type=&v=All&r1=ALL&a1=ON&d1=ON&i1=ON&p1=1&Bookmark=1

I want to fit 235/85's and don't want to go with AR steel wheels because of the offset difference. Will that be an issue here?

I kinda of like the look of tires on narrower wheels, but will this have a effect when I air down or are these tires even able to be put on 5.5" wheels?

If you go to the Dunlop or another tire company's web site you will seee the min/max rims you can put tires on.

235/85 is a no go for 5.5 inch, but 750 R 16 is ok.
Check the tracedge or what ever its called now, Cooper STT, and a few others in this size.

Good luck

The 5.5" is the standard 109 rim, and will fit the Disco 1/D90/Classic RR. I run 235X85X16 on them all the time. Depending on the manufacturer of the tire this is quite often the same as the 7.50X16.

are they more likely to come off the rim when aired down?

That's the thing to worry about. 5.5" is a little narrow for a 235 tire (~9.25" cross-section width). Fully-inflated they may stay seated in the bead with no problem. But an 85-series tire has a pretty tall sidewall, of couse, and the bead (rim) on those 5.5" wheels isn't really deep, so it's not what I'd want holding my aired-down tires on. If you want that wheel, go with something like a 205/80R 16 tire.

Yes they will work FINE.

In fact better than fine.

BUT make sure you get the later SIII style and offset 5.5x16in wheel. These were used on CT trucks and were standard on 109s, 110s, and 90s

235 85 came on 5.5 in wheels with the 110. However, Chris is right that 7.50x16 is a better fit but no problems with the 235 85 R16
