All right I have a 3 inch rte on my 95 and almost everyone I talk to says that 235/85 are as big as I can comfortably run. But I see that there is someone on here running that same size and no lift. I know he says that he has not got to try and flex it out yet but why can't you run a tire bigger than the 235 like say a 33-10.5 or even a 9-34 with the 3 inch setup. I was just looking for opions and advice from anyone that has tried. Thanks, Daniel

You can run 33's but you would have to regear to 4.10 and you would just have to cut more.. Even with the 235/85 you are going to notice a decrease in power when going up hills.. With the new gears though that fixes that problem. You could probably go bigger then 33's if you wanted to hack the sides of your truck more to fit them.

I am currently running the 235's but I would like to go with something at least a little wider and hopefully taller in the process. The two sizes on top of my list are the 255-85 BFG MT's and the 265-80 radial swammper tsl's. Just curious what will fit because I have never had a problem with the 235's with very mild trimming in the rear.

it's more cutting. that's all.
i know people that run 255-85-16. just cut some more and you are set. even 285/75-16 was done.

Dan,

Most folks on the list want to trim as little as possible, so they usually say "this size is the biggest" because they don't wanna trim more than a bit on the rear quarter panel, or rub on anything. It is all in how much you mind trimming, or what level of inside wheel well or radius arm rubbing you can deal with.

My suggestion is to go out and either borrow or buy one of tire sizes you want and have it mounted on your spare rim. Then, if you have access, flex the truck with a forkift at each corner, and turn the front wheels on each side. If you are fine with what you have to trim, go for it. The big caveat is the rear door, where if you have to trim past the seal, you may have to do some creative work.

does anyone know of any pictures on this site or else where of how much trimming goes into running tires like the 255-85 or even the 285-75. I am just curious before I go and plunk the money down for even 1 tire and find out that it is going to require alot of trim work. I don't necesarily want to do anything radical but could trim more than I have already. Thanks Daniel

This is an neverending story.
There's this great article in Tech section on 235s and an overview with text saying what's involved with different tyres.
Why not write some new articles, more pics on different setups w/pros and cons, so you can make your judgment better informed. So many people with so much experience it should be easy go!
