I have a 97 Disco and the trans has locked up in Park. I can turn on the ignition, but I can't take it out of Park. The brake lights also don't operate. I checked for grounds, bulbs, fuses for clues. But nothing. I am assuming that the brake lights and trans control are interrelated, and I've tried to study the electrical charts. Would appreciate help on this as the car just sits there! Thanks

Probably the brake switch. It sits on the brake pedal "arm", second switch up, and should be around $25 $30 at the dealer. What a loser I am checking into DiscoWeb at 7:30 on a Friday. Guess that's what a 1 year old does to you.

Gee, I didn't mean to start a discoweb social engagement! I just wanted to get my Disco going! Thanks Andrew, it's now 8:00 am Sat and now, I'm going to call around Chicago to find switch. That's what I thought it was also. I tried taking it off of my other Disco, but had trouble in the dark...the problem Disco is not in the cosy confines of my garage. Thanks for the tip...this problem actually created an unusual social engagement for us Friday night!!
