Does anyone know the parts and labor charge for changing all 4 rotors and brake pads on a 97 Discovery. The dealer whallopped me yesterday.

Also, how many miles is reasonable on a set of rotors.

Flat rate has it at about 4 hours per axle. 1.25 per axle for just the pads.

Rotor life is dependent upon how well you maintain your pads. If you always change the pads before they get too thin, you should get 2 or 3 sets of pads out of each rotor. What mileage depends totally upon your style of driving. I've put rotors and pads on a '99 DSII at 11k before, but I have over 75% life left in my pads with no discernable rotor wear at 16k on my '00 DSII. The biggest cause of wear is people not using their engine braking when decelerating. I came down Wolf Creek Pass (18 miles long with about 4300' drop in elev.) last night and only touched my brakes twice, but the idiot in the Exploder in front of me only came off his brakes twice. Big red glow all the way down the mountain, and a nice brake smell to accompany it. And I guarantee he was in "D" the whole way, whereas I was in 3, 2, & 1.

A lot. Rotors and pads probably about a grand. DIY should be about 300.
