I want to put 245/75 on my DII. I don't want to lag (too far)behind my friends X5 up the pass and would like to maintain the same RPM as stock. How do I calculate the ring and pinion ratio I need to keep it the same?

With 245\75 that will be 1.5"larger over all. If the gear is the same as D1 (3.54) You could go to a 4.10. May be 3.8 but never heard anyone running it on D-Web. You can always call Bill @ GBR and he should know more about 3.8. I would say 4.10's would do the trick and some for climbing mountian roads on or off.

Go to http://www.solihullsociety.org click on links scroll down click on tech tips then click on calculators they say 3.72 for gearing so 3.8 should keep you at stock rpm's Try GBR or ECR for your R&P.
Damn Tech Faults I would have posted this earlier

be ready for sticker shock, you may think twice about the 245's. if you are going to change your gearing, you might as well go for some 235's or bigger (with a lift) and run 4.10 gears, as you may regret it later otherwise...

if i were putting 245-75 on a d2 - wouldn't worry about it! that is why you got 3rd gear! guys run 255-85's without r&p change. remember d90s and d110 use 32" tires and still have 3:54s,

the x5 might have you on the hwy - but just have him try to follow you on the trail! he'll cry when his "german subaru forester" leaves pieces all over the trail and ends up high centered on a twig causing $10k in damage....

GBR states their rings don't work on the Disco II. I thought it was the same differential. What gives?

i have 235/85 on a D2 with 2" lift. You do feela diffence, but nothing major/drastic. I'll be adding another 2" and adding 33". For those i think a R&P change would be necessary. Clarance
