Hello all,
Would anyone be kind enough to supply me with the free length and spring rate of the front and rear coils on a Discovery? Thanx...

Check out
http://www.geocities.com/Baja/Dunes/7501/springinfo.html
From the best I can gather,
it appears that you get 133lbs/in and 15.4 - 16.4 for the front
and
210lbs/in and 14.49 -15.13 in free length
for the rear
I'm planning on checking the color codes to see what I really have on my 97 SE7.

That data may be incomplete. The Disco rear springs I have on hand are orange/green, which is not listed there. These orange/green springs have 40k miles on them and are about 15" freestanding height. They are fairly stout, definitely stronger than 230 lbs. in rate because they are thicker and heavier than both 751 springs and my D90 rear springs.

John,
You sure it is not green/brown?

RN was not very helpful on this one.
I called and they said that the disco rears give 1in lift in the front and that there was no such thing as Green/orange springs. Instead they said stock rears were green/brown and gave the aforementioned 1in lift when placed in front. This I know is wrong. They also said LR does not publish rates and lengths for their springs.

Hey Ron,
What kind of lift would stock rear springs provide in the front of a Discovery with ARB and winch?

19.5in lip to wheel center. Basically 2in-2.5in over what you have with stock fronts of the same vintage.
Stock rears 60k 97 DI in front with XD9000i and Non airbag ARB. (not my truck but I did do the measuring and help the owner with the swap)

Thanx Ron,
Was considering this as an option to level the front end, but I'm already at 20.25" in the front (OME 758's), and 21.5" in the rear (OME 759's). I was looking to get to 20.75" -- 21.00". Back to OME 764 idea I guess....

Rovertym 3in springs would be nearly identical to a 764 only longer if you need more hieght.
21in is a lot of hieght in front, cv shaft territory for sure I would bet.

"You sure it is not green/brown?"
Yeah, it could be brown and not orange.
"I called and they said that the disco rears give 1in lift in the front and that there was no such thing as Green/orange springs. Instead they said stock rears were green/brown and gave the aforementioned 1in lift when placed in front. This I know is wrong."
Agreed. The 751's give more than 1" of lift and the green/brown springs are the same height and definitely thicker in coil and heavier than the 751's.

I wish I knew exactly what they were.

Hey Ron,
I just re-read that post. Did you mean 20.5" instead of 19.5? You confuse me when you say 19.5" or about 2-2.5" over stock. The TEch page shows 18.5" stock in the front, so 19.5 would only be one inch over stock, and 2.5" over stock is about what I'm looking for....

19.5
That 18.5 is for like the first 10seconds you drive it off the lot. The only way you might get 20.5 is with no bumper/winch and brand new disco rears.

This is why I don't like 1in 2in etc for lifts. compared to what, with what extra weight etc.
