My mechanic is hesitant about doing the timing chain on my 95 Disco. He told me to take it to someone who knows more about rovers (more about buick V8's)? Does this guy know what he is talking about or is the timing chain replacement straightfoward and similar to other non-LR vehicles. Details of the process to take to my mechanic would be more than appreciated.

Do LR engines (95 3.9) bend valves when the timing chain breaks?

1. never done it, but it should not be harder than any other

2. You have a "non-interference" head so no. It is not like a honda or what not where you get snap and bend valves. Lots of other bad stuff happens but not bent valves . . . or so I am told (and hope to never find out for sure)

The biggest "pain" re the chain & gear replacement is getting the goofy pieced gasket to seal at the front of the oil pan. Heck, if I can do it on the garage floor with hand tools, any real "garage" should have no problem at all.
