Anyone had a Land Rover Dealer replace the rear view mirror under warranty ?? Just as with most, my rear view mirror is now 'leaking' and does not auto dim anymore. My '97 disco is about to go in for it's last service under the warranty.

Any thoughts ?

I have a '96 and I wrote to LRNA with no success, but it can't hurt to bug them a bit about it. It is a pretty pricey part.....about $250+. I think I am just going to get a $15 manual dimming mirror and not worry about it again. JC Whitney catalog has them cheaper ($100), but am not sure if they will work with existing setup or it the quality is same as Connelly. Good luck.

My dealer replaced mine under 12mo/12k re-certified warranty. They also replaced plastic center console because the goop corroded it. This is one of the few things that the dealer actually did for me. If you have to foot the bill on a new rear view mirror, go with another manufacturer that has auto dim, compass, and thermometer built in.

John, bring it to the dealers attention when you take it in. Given that the warranty is about to expire, you should bring up any on-going or current problems. Most importantly, put it in writing, record the miles and date and this way you will have something concrete to refer to if some of these simple but expensive problems are not fixed before the actual expiry date of your warranty.

I've had the rearview mirror replaced in the '96 under extended warranty. Ridiculously expensive

Thanks for the input, I dropped the disco off this morning for dervice, and so far they are sayed 'no' to replacement under warranty. Service writter said she would check again and let me know. Interesting the reason sighted was that the warranty does not cover 'glass'. Of course my response was the 'glass' is just fine, it's the mechanicals that have failed. We will see, the dealer has been really good about these types of issues in the past.
(if it's not covered I will be replacing with a Donnally shipped direct to save on some $$$)

Pathetic! What a cop-out! Warranty doesn't cover glass, my ass! You're right - glass is fine, it's your damn Land Rover magic mirror that's broken. Your dealer obviously went to the same school as mine. What a crock....man, shit like this really pisses me off...we'll take your $35 THOUSAND dollars and then we'll suffer no shame in trying to wiggle out of any obligation to stand behind our product. You should start knocking skulls together at your dealership - maybe you'll knock some sense into them. Cheap bastards. Creeps. Jerks. Where is your dealership? I may drive on over and plant my size 12 up someone's ass.

Bill,
Come on over/down/across and kick some ass.....my dealer is in Atlanta, and as I have said before this mirror issue they have been great at jumping right in to fix things. So far I am trying the curtious route, you know, 'here's the issue and I expect you to handle it' attitude. I will not know the outcome until tomorrow sometime. I'll take your advice as to where to place my foot, once (and if) I get the bad news tomorrow.
But seriously, if you have the paperwork from where your dealer replaced your mirror under warranty and want to fax a copy to me....I'll be glad to wave it in the dealers face and say 'take care of my mirror, as LRNA has before'

Let me check my extensive repair files and see what I have (I KNOW I have some kind of documentation - at least the original dealer repair "invoice" that shows problem, fix, and $0 due).

Good news....My dealer has stepped up to the plate and decided to replace the mirror under warranty (golf clap please). Amazing what they try and get away with. Thanks for all of the support.....and Bill thanks for looking for your invoice it really would have helped if needed. Now I just wonder why the dealer couldn't have said yes, no problem when I first dropped it off.

Thanks again....I guess this mirror will now be good for another 50,000 miles....I'll start saving for the next one :-)

Congrats - stick to your guns and get results!

Because it's much easier (and cheaper) to say "No" and hope you just go away, or give them big $$$ to perform work that should've been covered under warranty.
