I am trying to find out more info on the redesigned BFGoodrich Mud Terrain tires that that were supposed to be out in July. Anybody heard of anything?
Thanks in advance,
Mike

The only thing I've heard (read a year or so ago in Fourwheeler) is that the middle lugs will be siped. There was a rumor going around they'd be out in August of this year -- but you know how that goes.

I was waiting for this myself, but the dealer called BFG and asked about it, but they didn't know anything about it. So, I got the muds anyway. Perhaps they don't like to talk to much so they can sell the old stock first, or it's just a viscious rumor.

A great alternative is the
kelly safari MSR.
They are a "mild" mud tire,
great in all conditions and very quiet.
(think wife acceptance factor here...)

I'm currently running Kelly AWRs. They're great on road, but the absolutely suck off road. Why do I have them then? They're cheap and they were available when I needed them.

Clint,
Do you have any additional info on the Kelly Safari MSR (picture)? Of course, I can get off my ass and research at tire shop myself, but typing is so easy....

P.S. Thanks for the tranny cable trick - will do it this weekend when I have time...

Blue,
yeah the kellys kick butt!
I have the P245/75 not LT.
They are load 109Q (thats 2271lbs).
I had to trim the back fenderwell slightly
and adjust one steering stop about 1 turn.
Now there's no rubbing.
The picture on the Kelly web site doesn't do them justice. I don't have a digital camera, but they look sweet. The cutouts between the lugs are deep and wide enough to fit your forefinger in sideways.
There is a kelly dealer here that will sell them for $375 out the door! My brother setup that deal, so I can't take any credit. All the guys at the tire place run them on their rides and say they get 40k+ miles out of them if you rotate often.

I'll definitely check them out. My top choice right now is the Big O Big Foot XT 245/75/16 - very aggressive and deeper than normal tread on a very strong tire.

I've had 3 sets of Big O's on multiple cars/trucks, and I'm currently running 245/70/16 Big O Big Foot AT Dual Grooves (I want more aggressive tread, though). I'm also in good with my local dealer, so he gives me at least 10% off (plus trade-in $ on my present set). The best thing about Big O is the full no-hassle warranty. If you rip up the tire off-road they'll replace for free with no questions (had two replaced on my Jeep when I obviously abused them off-road). But you pay about $125/tire for the service - Kelly's price looks pretty attractive by comparison.
I'd really appreciate it if you'd do me a quick favor - could you measure the height (diameter) and width (footprint) of your Kelly 245/75's? I've tried measuring the tires in the shop, but there's a big difference in size when they're actually mounted on the Disco with normal air pressure. I'm lifting with OME HD/MD springs and shocks, so I pretty sure rubbing won't be an issue.
Thanks a ton,
-Blue

Excuse for my ignorance. What does "LT" mean?
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
LT= Light truck
P= Passenger car

Blue,
The Kelly on the driver's side rear measures
7 3/8" tread width
14 3/4" rolling radius
30" tall from ground to top
My stock michelin spare is 28 3/4" tall
