Just wondering how much difference I could expect choosing the K&N direct replacement filter or going all the way to a Filtercharger open-end version...any comments, Please??

I got the filter replacement element, and well: "dumbo did not fly, but he inhaled better!"
:)

So Nadim, would you go with a filtercharger set-up if you had it to do over again??

I put a K&N filter in my airbox and removed the air silencer. Sounds nice. But like Nadim said, it didn't fly; only breathed better. Gas mileage increased somewhat. But what you should understand (as I have submitted to the glum realisation) is you have a not-super-powerful engine driving all 4 wheels all the time on a 4500-lb vehicle, with power reduced substantially through low gearing. A filtercharger will definitely sound nice, and your gas mileage will improve some, but you won't make a race car. Unless you find some way to shave about 2000 pounds off the truck's weight and add about 100 horsepower...

i cannot answer you correctly sam, since i did not compare the 2 setups....i wanted the replacement so as to get a snorkle in the future, and get clean, cold air in the engine, and far from the waters...that was my objective, and the good thing of not carrying spare filter elements while on expditions!

I just recieved my K & N today, it makes a nice sound, I also { Disco II 2000 } cut the pipe leading into the airbox, it comes into the airbox about 7 inches which is about 1-2 inches from the wall of the air box. By cutting the top of this off the air can immediately go throught the filter instead of hitting the side, Let you know how it works. I am working on a cold air inlet pipe by still being able to keep factory airbox, if I can locate a smaller wiper fluid container you could run a hose down to the front of your bumper and then revert back to factory intake on off road days. Try to take some pics, later

Herky, I would be happy to see those and the inprovements/hassle it took to do the conversion.

Jon...what did you remove off of your airbox? That horn shaped thing? I'd love to let more air to my K&N than that foolish setup. Any suggestions?
