Hi guys...

I know that this site is usually for NA Discovery owners, and the question is a long shot, but I need some info...

My 1992 Discovery is sitting in Lebanon, while I am here shopping for her!...I am looking into replacing the front and rear brake lines that run from the chassis to the brake calipers with Stainless steel extended ones to cope with the lift. Unfortunately, I neither have the Disco at hand, nor the part numbers...

I know most of you have NA Disco part catalogues, and that will not help I think...but I am trying my luck to see if anyone can figure this one out, and help me a lot...

The Disco's information is:

1992 3.5 V8i Discovery 5 door, solid disc brakes front and rear, VIN#: SALLJGML8JA022521, it originally came with 10 spline 1.11" axles if that will help.

I would much appreciate all the information you can help me with, in particular, I need:

1. The number of lines per axles front and rear
2. The part numbers for each different line

Thank you in advance for all your help.
:)

Thanks Bill...

Well, that is why I got hasty for the information...I was gonna wait 'til summer, but I want to get 2 sets...one for now, and another for spares...

Anyhow...they do not know which one fits my disco?! that is why i need to know the part # in order for them to get me the right ones!

I like them and all, but they are not willing to help as much as i'd hope...

Thanks anyways...

Nadim,
I am 99% sure that you can buy 2 paragon performance D-90 sets ($43 from paragonperformance.com) and it will give you all the lines (5) you need and a spare rear (1). Since you are a non-abs you should have 5 lines. Two to each caliper in front and in to the center of the rear axle in the rear. (you may have only 3 lines like a D90 but I am not sure you will have to tell me) In either case the D90s are the same. PP lines are D.O.T approved whereas the Earl's ones SG sells are not DOT approved.

ron...come to think of it, i am 120% sure that i have 4 on the front axle, but for the rear, i have no idea!

You have 1 in the rear. Only ABS trucks have 2 in the rear. I went through this whole bit with the hybrid (early RR axles) and the 1996 NAS disco when I was bargin shopping for lines.

You need 2 extended length D90 sets. This will give you four fronts and two, 1 hose style rears.
Paragon has these for 43 a set (really cheap). they are extended length (plus 3inches at least).

If you want a seond set for spare you would need 4 d90 sets.

Nadim,

Ron is correct. Your 1992 pre-NAS disco will either mirror the RR Classic or the D90 brake system.
RRC = 4 front / 1 rear
D90 = 2 front / 1 rear

When LR added ABS, they went to *4 channel* system, which yielded 2 front lines and two rear lines on the NAS Disco.

It would probably be a safe bet to plan on 1 rear line for your 1992 model.

I am sure now that I have 5, since what you guys (ron and tom) are saying sound logical...

the question is:

what about the fittings?...aren't there many other type of fittings?

and can you guys tell me more on the D90 extended set...these are 3 25" SS lines? for 43$..that is a great price!

thanks again!

The d90 lines are extended length front (not sure exactly how long but 25 seems about right) and extended rear (shorter but that is the way it is supposed to be). The front is double male ends with convex ends and the back is double male one convex one something else (the end that goes into the 3 way junction). I know this sounds like a gay porn movie script but I swear it is the way it works.

HAHAHA!

i just sent them an email, and i hope to see what the outcome is...

you have been more than helpful...thank you again!

RON...
are all the fittings for land rovers are the same?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of pageLink to this message   By Ron on Thursday, April 05, 2001 - 06:28 am: Edit

The fronts are all the same except you either have 2 or 4 lines. In the rear you either get two if you have ABS (which is dual female lines) or one for non-abs (dual male but one designed to go with a 3 way junction so different than the front).

Ron

PS I guess it is possible that early trucks have BSF or whatever the series thread is but not with a 92

OK...great news...so i should order two D90 sets...
will that be enough for +4"shocks front and +8" rear???
sorry for the bombardment of questions Ron!
but you are the only one on the continent that knows this stuff!

Good info - thanks, Ron. I'm planning on upgrading/lengthening my '96 NAS (ABS) lines after my lift. $43/set - good price.

I think you will be fine with +4" in the front. Stock can handle at least +2" and the PP are 3in above that I think. You can always take the mount and lower it a bit if you need more. If you mean +8" in of travel in the rear I would say "probably" based on what I have seen with the d90 guys, however if the +8" is all down travel you may have other problems like the drive shaft seperating. Most guys who have mondo amounts of downward drop (ie they run Hiem jointed or hinged rear arms and 9014 or 9012 shocks with cones) will use a strap or cable on a mount in the middle of the rear axle to limit how far the center of the rear axle droops. It probably won't be as bad on a disco due to the longer drive shaft but it is something to think about.

Ron

PS I asked the same questions you are now about two or three weeks ago, which is the only reason I have any idea about this brake line stuff.

BG

The PP D-90 ones will only be good for the front on a NAS Disco, you will have to buy SG, RW, or PP disco rears for the rear two lines.

RON!

i just called paragon performance in the morning, and appearently, all the front fittings are 10mm...so no problem with the fittings...

as for the rear, there are two types...so i am not sure which one i have...do i have the range rover one...or the d90 one?

any help now wil be worth it's weight in gold!
:)
thanks again in advance...

Well there are at least two rangie fittings, the non-abs one and the ABS one. You have the non-abs one which to my knowledge is the same as the d90 rear one. I have a diagram of an 87-89 RR brake line system I can email you and you can see what I mean. The D90 rear fitting worked with my 87 RR rear axle, at least into the threeway junction (custom lines from there out). I don't know what other help I can give. Tell them you want the one with double male ends, one with the convex tip and one with the concave tip. This is what comes in the D90 set for the rear line.

ronald.brown(at)funb.com

PS I don't think the PP people are rover folks so to speak so I would just order 2 d90 sets and I am sure you will be ok, but since I have never seen a 1992 eurospec disco i cannot be 100% sure.

"The rear D90 line (single central line) is the same as Non-ABS RRs."

-Larry

Nadim,
Larry is the guy who set up Paragon Performance with their rover lines. I am sure he is right. And I am sure this is the same line as you have in the 1992 disco. So one last time, just order (2) extended length D90 sets and you will be ok. Have faith.

PS I like the no govt. no rules deal. Does that mean no taxes either. I could get used to that.
