Is there any way, short of putting a different T-Case in, of locking up the T-Case in a 2001 Series 2? I'm thinking of stuffing ARB's in both ends, and to leave the T-Case unlocked seems like a shame. (:

The transfer case in the disco 2 is exactly the same as in the disco 1.
It just lacks a lever and handle to actuate the diff lock.
You can lock the diff with a wrench (10mm I believe) if you crawl under the truck and reach up on top of the front part of the transfer case.
If the free end of the wrench if pointing forward, rotate it from the driver's side to the passenger side about 90 degrees.
Note- you must lock the diff with the engine running in order to keep traction control and abs. If you restart the truck with the lock engaged, they will be disabled.
Of course Land Rover doesn't recommend this, but it seems to work great on my friend's truck.
The combination of CDL and traction control is hard to beat and is pretty close to full lockers.
For sand, you will probably want to restart the truck to disable traction control, because it works against you when you need wheel spin.

But if you are looking for traction, get good tires first.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket locking mechanism for disco2s?

Talk to Charles at Rover Accessories - he has a full kit using genuine parts coming out shortly.

You can retrofit a Series I shift lever and linkage.

Thought you should know that I am currently perfecting a much less expensive (parts & labor) alternative that will be undetectable except by a detailed search. To keep on top of all the options in the DSII world, you should join disco2owners@yahoogroups.com.

Call the head mechanic at Landrover Sahara in Las Vegas, nev. Once when I needed parts when I was broke down there on an L.A. trip, I spoke with him and he knows the whole procedure.

I've posted this thrice, but it keeps disappearing, Clint. I am not releasing the makeup of my kit at this time, due to the many folks out there trying to build a workable kit. Suffice it to say that mine is ~$200, requires ~1 hour installation time, and is essentially electronic. I will keep this BBS posted, but the best way to stay on top of my new products, along with RoverTym's DSII stuff, Trek Outfitters, and Rover Accessories is on disco2owners. Thanks.
