Mike,

Simply go ahead with your coolant flush, thermostat and/or hose replacements, then fill the radiator and expansion tank with coolant/water blend. Put everything back together but leave the fill hole open on the radiator (little black plastic threaded plug w/o-ring).

Now you need a long/tall funnel that will fit tightly into the hole on top of the radiator. Start up the engine and fill the funnel with coolant/water blend. Let it run for 30-40 minutes with the filled funnel attached. Check occasionally to make sure the funnel is full.

This will allow any air trapped in the cooling system to *burb* out as the thermostat opens/closes. Any trapped air is replaced with the coolant in the funnel.
