If they are original you can see fluid leaking out of them when they go, otherwise 60k is about the max. Old Man Emu (OME), Bilstiens, and Ranchos seem to be the most popular brands, you should also do your steering damper at the same time, for it get an OME or a stock woodhead.

what's better, the OME damper or the stock Woodhead?

OME is better but twice as much. I get woodhead as they usually get dented before they go bad as the damper is quite vunerable.

Just ordered a new OME (Old Man Emu)dampener from Nathan at [email protected] for less than $50 + shipping. They are a little beefier than stock.....has a metal 'skid' plate.....not the plastic. You can get a full set of Bilsteins for $280 at www.roverconnection.com too.

I don't get it. I thought they were all metal and the "skid plate" housing will dent as soon as it gets near a rock. You either need a D90 style relocation kit or the Southdown axle gaurd or be prepared to replace them. If there is something different let me know.
Cheers
