ok,
I know its a slow friday so I thought I would ask. I am thinking about rhino lining the interior of my other rover. Anyone tried to do this in a Jeep or something. I want to stop the rust in the floors and have something I can make a total mess out of and not feel bad. Also I want cheap, so has anyone tried herculiner (sp) or maybe even just undercoating it. would that be nasty and come off or would it be cool. I know RTE uses that on all their products so I guess it is got to be tough.

Thanks
Ron

Several folks have applied Rhino, Herculiner etc.. on the D90 list. The consensus is that if you are covering aluminum there is little to worry about as far as rust goes(galvanic corrosion notwithstanding). For covering steel you need to make sure that it is completely rust free as it will be difficult to remove the surface to repair.

I have personally used Herculiner and have been very happy with it. On the other hand I've also had a pickup bed sprayed with LineX and that was very nice. You might want to look for the colored versions of the products also.

Hope this helps

What is the final texture of herculiner? Is there a residual smell? does it stick well to paint? where did you get it? How much was it?

Thanks
Ron

I again lost the message I was going to post. I'm not going to retype it.

Basically, don't use gravel gurd as it will rist and crack. Plus it's not thick enough.

Herculiner is better but like professional jobbers, requires proper prep - scuffing and Xylene - for good adhesion.

Rhino, Armorthane, ArmaGuard are fairly soft and can be cut/gouged by sharp object. Plus they are porous and seem to retain some moisture.

Tyro and I think Line-X are much tougher and can be sprayed thicker. I don't know if they'd chip when the sheet metal bends but inside your rover it should not be an issue. This is what I'd use. I'd just check if it's LineX or ArmaGuard that's the hard stuff (I can't remember), as I don't think you can get Tyro stateside.

Sorry about the spelling. I lost the previous reply when spell-checking it, so I skipped that step.

'gurd' should read 'guard'
'rist' is 'rust'
And the rest I don't care about...:D

PS. Lining the tub on my Jeep was one of the best mods I had done. I just stripped the vehicle inside (3 weeks old at the time. Yeiks!) and drove it to the shop. They prepped it and sprayed it and I picked it up in the afternoon.
