Anyone else having problems with dealing with Cocky Land Rover Service Managers that don't know a thing about the truck. Land Rover Richmond is truly turning off some folks with their "jerk" Service Manager Bruce.
Any luck at any other dealers in this region or independent shops??

Tim

If the Richmond you're discussing is VA.

I know they don't claim to be long-standing LR experts, but they are smart, willing to think & find out, have the equipment to do electrical work & have very fair prices. Highly satisfied for my '97 Disco I.

WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU AT LAND ROVER RICHMOND? FORGET ABOUT BRUCE, LRR HAS A LOT OF GREAT FOLKS WORKING THERE, WHO DO KNOW ABOUT CARS AND WHO DO CARE!

I'm going to have to second that one there. Bruce at Land Rover Richmond is an absolute idiot. He knows nothing about cars, lies through his teeth and tries to rip you off by selling tire rotations and "air induction services" that a.) the manufacturere doesn't recommend and b.) is over priced

but the restof of the crew their is pretty cool. Mike has been there along time and he'll bust his but to help you and knows what the hell hes talking about. The girl at the desk I think her name is Mindy, she's a sweetie and always is real helpful she's been there long. Ron is the best person to ask for help from. He's spacy but he's a good guy and he won't rip you off

I have to piggy back on the Bruce deal.. They should get rid of that shady character. He's rude on the phone and in person. Ron on the other hand is definitely pretty chill and the actual dealership is nice.

WELL THE WHOLE DEALERSHIP IS GREAT BECAUSE OF THAT MANDY CHIC. TALK ABOUT SERVICE, IF IT WERE'NT FOR HER, THE PLACE WOULD BE IN SHAMBLES. THE TECHS ARE VERY GOOD, AND KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. THEY HAVE TWO OF THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY.

Mandy is definitely cool...The dealership is nice...Bruce is the problem here. I can't beleive their Centre Manager keeps that guy.

I also recommend Axselle's Service on Lakeside in Richmond. This is a family owned business for 50 some years and they have a guy there by the name of Claudio who is an expert on ROVERS! 266-3574

ALRIGHT EVERYONE, ENOUGH OF THE BRUCE BASHING. LAND ROVER RICHMOND IS A GREAT COMPANY. I BELIEVE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT IS IMPROVING DAILY.

I am glad I was able to see this thread. My wife and I live on Lake Anna and were trying to determine between LRR and LR Alexandria. Not much to choose from now.
Thanks to "real life" sources like Discoweb I have found great info on these vehicles.
EVERYTHING from electrical problems to best dealers.

Thanks Discoweb!

Hey JB, are there any places around Lake Anna to go off-roading (besides someone's private farm)? My parents have a house in Morgan I (over near the Dirty Banana Bar and J. Leonard's Restaurant) and I am down visiting them most every weekend in the summer. email me offline if you'd like. rdonaldson(at)sitesmith(dot)com
Thanks.

I'm in Charlottesville, which is only an hour away. Be glad to meet up with you guys some weekend. Most of the wheeling we do is farther west, in the George Washington National forest.

i thought we were Bruce bashing here. Make plans on a different thread, this one is only to let people know that Bruce sucks. (never met him, but thats what i hear)

Al,

I am definitely interested in going for an afternoon dig if you know anywhere around Richmond.

BTW where do you get your Rover serviced?? Suggestions...comments..etc I have also experienced the "Bruce Factor"

We've had to deal with our own "Bruces". OFF WITH HIS HEAD, I say. Put it on a pole at the city gates! What's up with Mandy? She sounds pretty cool. What's the number of LR Richmond? I may drive over from Phx for an oil change.

Sorry, I drank my lunch today.

TO JP HOGAN, IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT LR ALEXANDRIA HAS A FIVE WEEK BACKUP. FROM MY EXPERIENCE THE GUYS AT LRR TREAT PEOPLE RIGHT. THE SALES STAFF IS EXCELLENT AND THE SERVICE TEAM GOES OUT OF THEIR WAY TO ACCOMODATE YOU IN THE BEST MANNER POSSIBLE. THE TECHNICIANS, IN MY OPINION ARE SOME OF THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY. BUT JUST TO BE FAIR, TAKE YOUR CAR TO BOTH PLACES. I GUARANTEE THAT YOUR OPINION WILL CHANGE OF LRR.

It's J.B. but no big deal. I called up 2 weeks ago and had an appointment the same week and I was able to choose a time. I'm not sure about this winter though but a back up would not surpise me in December and January. Being a long time owner I know about the peak periods at the dealerships. The other part about Nova is I do have the option of HBL.
I do not question the behind the scenes staff at LRR. I question the way I am treated on the phone when I call and the way several others have been treated in person.

Thanks for the info though,

Take care,

JB

re: LR Alexandria, they did have a 5 week backup until December when they opened up the satellite service facility (on Eisenhower Ave.). Generally they seem to be running at a 1-2 day backup now, not too bad really. The secret is to ask for one of the techs that really knows thier stuff as they've hired some new people that aren't as experienced yet (not a skill issue, just getting up the learning curve). Ask for Carrol or John. Granted, they haven't solved my stalling problem, but I still trust them. . .

HBL is the worst. They take forever, they ignore you unless you have a $70,000 Merc or 911, and they charge more. Alexandria was a little backed up and I wanted an oil change so I went to HBL. It took 30 minutes just to get some one to talk to me and 6 hours to do the oil change. Plus, they charged me an extra 20 bucks more then LR Alexandria for the privilege of going to HBL. For that matter in 98 when I went to go and look at Disco's the sales people at HBL wouldn't even give me the time of day and I wasn't there to just look around. I went to LR Alexandria and it was like night and day. They were great and I got a great deal on my Disco. I have always taken the Disco there for service and they have always done a great job and are always nice and honest with me.
