Just installed the RoverTym 2" lift package.
Definate Vibration in driveline!!!
Must be rotoflex due to it's extreme angle?!
Where do I get a Used driveshaft with a U joint setup?
What years RR driveshafts fit this 95 disco??
Has anyone done this??
I know I'm going to need the NEW HUB KIT .
Thanks

I have one off of an 87 Rangie that will fit. I think 87 and 88 are the same length and 90-95 will work but are not exactly right. Make me a reasonable offer on it. I was going to put it on the disco but the disco seems happy with its rotoflex, despite its disdain for its engine management system.

RTE 2" kit should not vibe at all. That is not enough lift to create much angle. Maybe your rotoflex is shot? Maybe your other 2 u-joints are shot? It is more likely the front driveshaft anyway. It is so short, the angle increases more with lift.

Here's the deal...Following RTE directions, it said use the 1/2" and 3/8" included spacers with a 2" lift...I did.
This made the pumpkin level to the ground plane. BAD ANGLE!
I then removed both links again and put in just the 1/4" spacers, by themselves, this seemed to do the trick.
The differential plane seems very close to the plane of the driveshaft.
Looks like I could even go to something as thin as a 1/16" washer...instead of the included spacers.
to bring the diff. up a little higher.
My driveline does not seem to have that grinding/vibrating feel...
I'm going on the highway today to see if this thing is safe for the family!

If I'm not mistaken, stock rear driveshafts do not have a double-cardan joint on the t-case ouput side. So, rear pinion being level with the ground would be the more correct angle than it pointing up. The pinion should actually point down by 1-2 degrees from the t-case output shaft level/line.
Anyway, let us know what will correct your problems.

Ohhhh,
You installed some kind of lift package?
I just installed 2" RTE springs, front and rear, and all was cool and it rocks. What do you need shims and spacers for?
Anyway... CALL JOHN. He is The Man. I guarantee he wants to help you!
OK, also... Rotoflex is good. No reason to ditch it. I love mine and often speak nicely to it.
I think your vibe troubles are somewhere else.

double-cardan joint??
is this a sliding spline??
By Milan on Tuesday, April 10, 2001 - 05:35 pm: Edit |
No,
Double-cardan is what is commonly (and wrongly) refered to as a CV joint. Since the Disco uses real CVs on the front axleshafts, I just wanted to make the distinction I was talking about the driveshaft.
Sorry about the confusion.

So "U" joint = Double-cardan !? GOT IT.
By Ron on Wednesday, April 11, 2001 - 05:29 am: Edit |
No.
rotoflex=rubber disc
U joint= one ujoint
CV or double cardon aka cv driveshaft= two u joints

OK...GET the dictionary of acronyms!! HA HA HA
By slider on Wednesday, April 11, 2001 - 07:06 pm: Edit |
don't you need two U's to make 1 joint? Not kidding.
By ho on Wednesday, April 11, 2001 - 07:14 pm: Edit |
the vibration is probably from the front shaft.

Slider,
You're right on the Us but 'u-joint' is a term commonly used to refer to the cross that connects the 2 Us. Hence the term joint, I guess.
