The back windows in our 96 Disco seem to have a mind of their own. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. The other day the driver side back would'nt go up. After about 6 hours parked, it decided to go up when I pressed the switch!
I replaced all of the fuses and it seems that is not the problem. If it were the motor, it would'nt work at all..
We had it the the local LR dealer two weeks ago for other problems, and they check the windows and said everything was OK!
Any Suggestions? Does each window have a window motor? Could it be a short in the master "child safety" switch on the front console...
Any help would be appreciated...
Thanks

There is some kind of a little controler brain box for the power windows that gets dirty or maybe cracked connections. I think it is hidden behind the glove box, to the right on the door pillar maybe.
Many Discos do this. Mine has for years. I have just talked nicely to it and the rear windows start working in a few minutes.

See if this also happens. When the rear windows don't roll down, see if the front windows or sunroof operate after the key is removed from the ignition. Mine does the exact same thing, and I've noticed that I don't get my 45 second (or whatever) to roll up my front windows when my rear don't work.
I've been told that there is something that needs to be resoldered, something about the traces going bad - although I don't know what that really means. If you find out a way to fix it, definately tell me.

Check the switch!

What a high frequency, mine has the same problem. I've checked all the switches, I've looked at the regulators. Everything seems to check out. Has Land Rover ever issued a bulletin about this?

I have the same Intermittent problem on my 96 Disco, and the Glen Cove dealer is starting to act like a cash register. I would appreciate any info available on how to fix this without the dealer's involvement.

My 96 Disco's rear windows have all together stopped working. I drove over a speed bump, and then they stopped - but before I was having the same problems as everyone else here. The rear windows would work now and then, but the front windows were fine. Someone told me that it was the window control unit (WCU) behind the glove compartment.
I'm having LR Portland take a look at it. I'll let everyone know what they find out.

Got my rear windows looked at and fixed at LR Portland today. They were great, they got me in and out the same day. They replaced the window control unit (behind the glove box), just like I though was the problem. Now my rear windows roll down when I ask them too, and the time-out function works as well (windows will still roll up when the key is out). The unit cost me somewhere in the ballpark of $140+labor. A little steep, but now its not annoying me anymore.
