Group,

I'm in the process of upgrading my 97 Disco and want to upgrade the suspension and have been leaning toward the RoverTym suspension, 3"lift and putting 235 85 16 on. Is there something else that you think is a better way to go? There seems to be a wide variety of kits offered. Is there any one that you can recommend I look at. I need something that will allow me to drive the car on the road during the week and provide the articulation and clearance to drive off-road? I have been looking at Safari Guard, OME, Rockware, RoverTym and Desert Rover.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

David

Opinions vary a lot on this subject. The more 'extreme' guys will say 3" is the kind of lift you want. I'm a little less aggressive and I believe 2" is a nice amount of lift. Personally, I belive the vehicle looks much better with a little lift on it. Especially if your original springs have started to sag. Off-road the extra lift gives your vehicle that much more room to absorb the bumps on the trails.

In my opinion, 2" is probably the max lift that you can get away with before you will 'probably' need to correct the angle between the diffs and the transfer case. RoverTym sells a nice set of 2" springs for $250.00 (call John for pricing and availability). A set of Rancho shocks will run you about $300.00 (maybe less if you shop around).

The realy question is do you want to increase the amount of wheel travel (flex) at the same time? If not, go with Bilstein (for onroad) or Old Man Emu (OME) shocks (for off-road/onroad). If you want longer travel, then RS9000 shocks, new upper shock mount ($125), Quiet Cones ($100) will fit the bill. Leave your anti-sway bars on for on road driving and remove them in about 5 minutes when you go off-roading. You MAY have some front driveline vibration after the lift and you may not. ARB sells a castor correction kit (about $60.00) which I have not used, or you can castor correct your front radius arms, or you can replace your front driveshaft with a double cardigan (spelling?) drive shaft. You will probably not have any vibrations in your rear driveshaft due to it's much longer length.

Again, these are my opinions, your actual mileage may vary...

LoL,
Mike

Avoid the Stage XX from SG. Once again it failed on me out on the trail due to poor quality.
