I am sure this is a question that gets posted here a bit, but I have not been checking here for some time. But I have been hearing all kinds of suggestions when it comes to replacing the stock Champion plugs. I have heard to go with NGK and not to with any type of Bosch plug. I in the past have always used Bosch in my VW's, Volvo's and my last Land Rover and never had an issue. I don't really want to get another set of Champions for sure. Any suggestions or comments? Thanks tons~

I just put NGKs in my '95 and it's running great. I've always had good luck with them.

I recently put in Champion truck spark plugs I got from Pep Boys (about $2.50 each) along with Magnecor 7 mm wires (magnecor.com $54)and it idles and runs very smooth.

Why not Bosch? I was just about to order some +4s. What are the negatives other than price?

I'm with Josh (hopefully not the goofy one) on the Bosch issue - I'm about to buy +4 Platinums and install them with Magnecor 8mm Electrosport wires...what's wrong with Bosch???

The common complait is that they are expensive and due to longer service intervals you are less likely to notice problems and they are more likely to sieze in the block. A lot of people run them though.

Don't think anyone is against Bosch......most of us and should know they make good products. Have always been happy with them. Just wanted to hear some input on other options. I think I will go with the standard Bosch Platinums. Good to change them out every 30,000 no matter what.....or even more frequent. What's $16 when a round of shots for your buddies is the same. Personally I like Bosch over Jeagermeister.

Well, I wasn't too happy with the Bosch platinums. They were installed in my '72 Series III, and the 2.25 did not do well in cold weather - hard to start and all that. Regular ol' Champions cured the problem.

BTW, Rover reccomends the *same* plug for both the 2.25 and the 4.0 V-8.

I don't know about Bosch... If there plugs are as reliable as their starters... Then I'm glad I didn't spend the extra money. I've gone through two starters in 6 months! Glad it was under warranty. I went with champions and bought my freinds a round ;-)
BTW: My freind got a starter at autozone for his Bronco for about fifty bucks two years ago and it has yet to fail. We go into the same water depth and he doesn't have any problems.

I'm also using the Bosch Platinums.....was supposed to switch over to the Magnecor wire set....never did it....but my Rover ('94 w/ about 87k) doesn't get driven much, and has sat in the driveway through it's coldest winter (NJ from Atlanta).....when I did drive it...no problems....not even with starting. Still want to change the wires though....just need to put aside the $54....

HI,
I have used Bosch +4 in a 1984 Maserati Biturbo and a 1995 Saturn SL2 twin cam. Both of these cars did NOT like the +4 plugs created a lean condition just off idle. Bucking. Bosch would NOT return my money. Just food for though.

I got the bosch +4 for my 96 and they work just fine, but so would probably any plug !

I have never used the bosh +4's on my disco but I have used them on other cars. At best they were adequate. On one car they were awful, but that car
was picky about plugs in general.

NGK makes a platinum plug for Toyota (others too) that has a full sized electrode instead of the tiny one that bosh uses. As good as the regular NGK plugs but with a 65K life. Those are very good plugs but I am not sure if they have a cross reference to the Champions. I could check...I have the catalog somewhere.

I use the Champions on my disco. So cheap that I change them often. They work well. They spark and cause combustion...what more could you want?

Just bought some NGK plugs, can't remember the exact model code but they have a V shaped electrode so they supposedly have two sparks on each plug. Has anyone heard of this?

Going to fit them tonight and I'll let you know what I think of them.

They dont have 'two sparks' per plug. Just one...

They are good plugs though.

I use Bosh plugs as well, but I use the single electrode version. It seems to be working great. I haven't had any problems and it seems to run fine.
