Since I bought my 98' Disco I had been getting about 12 MPG. I recently added Magnecor 8mm wires, and Bosch +4 plugs. After those additions I am now getting 12.5 MPG. What is the problem here? Shouldn't it be better than this?

That's about it. I have seen 18 on some long distance trips...but around town and local freeway driving 12 is pretty normal.

Yeah, I thought it would be better too, but oh well, it doesn't bother me too much since I enjoy it so much. I started with about 11mpg, then put in 7mm Magnecores, new NGK plugs, KN filter, new oxygen sensors, new optima, and had the fuel injectors cleaned. I am now up to about 12.5 or so, with about 15.5 on long distance trips where I can keep my speed steady. Just the way of the beast.

> 4000 lbs, all wheel drive, areodynamics of a shed, somewhat small engine... we are lucky that we get the mileage we do!

My last tankfull worked out to 14.5 mpg in mixed hwy/commute driving (98 Disco). My friend with a new Expedition made me feel better...he gets 10-12.

I would love to get 12mpg. Most I've seen is 11.2

We're getting about 13.5MPG daily and 17MPG on road trips. It's a 1997 auto with 37k miles.

Keep your on-road tire pressure up and watch your driving habits. There is more to getting MPG then plugs and wires. It's a smallish engine powering an awd pig with the shape of a brick.

My folks had an awd Mountaineer for a two year lease. They were happy with 12mpg.

Wow, I wish I had that good of gas mileage. I run about 10-11mpg, about 8-9 with a good head wind.
